We are seeking an experienced senior manager to lead our portfolio forecasting team. This team operates at the intersection of Finance, Credit, and Product, translating product changes and fluctuations in risk and customer behavior into financial outcomes. As the team lead you will be responsible for various data models and oversee the building out of new capabilities – utilizing this data to drive company strategy by identifying new opportunities/risks and finding innovative ways to grow the business. The results of the initiatives you lead will drive key business decisions and empower and amplify our team to achieve Tala’s mission of being a financial agency for all!
What you'll do- Be an expert on customer LTV (Lifetime Value). Understand the key drivers of portfolio health (e.g., origination, repayment, retention, lifetime value) and how those drivers translate to overall business results. Help your cross-functional stakeholders understand what is important for their world as well.
- Have an impact on business strategy. Your job is not just to create/oversee models, but to utilize your understanding of these business levers to inform and drive business decisions such as marketing spend and credit approvals.
- Set best practices. Own Finance’s LTV (Lifetime Value) forecasting codebase (python) and oversee the implementation of efficient and scalable solutions with high levels of accuracy. You understand the trade-off between accuracy and level of effort and seek to find the right balance depending on the task at hand.
- Be curious. Independently identify new opportunities and analyses by leveraging your deep understanding of the customer journey. Find areas of high leverage, dig in, and make an impact.
What you'll need- You have a technical background but are keenly interested in how to leverage data to drive business decisions – having an impact on company strategy and decision-making is highly motivating for you

Requirements - 5+ years of relevant experience and BS in Data Science, Math, Statistics, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Economics, or related fields
- Strong analytical background with a proven ability to draw relevant and impactful business conclusions from data.
- Object-oriented programming in python, including designing custom classes, writing scalable and well-documented code, as well as auditing and testing code.
- Knowledge of relational databases and experience with building queries in SQL
- Knowledge of and experience with reporting and data visualization packages (Looker, Tableau, Plotly, Bokeh).
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence in an dynamic, cross-functional environment
