Summary

The Technical Designer is responsible for ensuring the fit, function, quality, and construction of Carhartt products meets the needs of our customers and consumers, while ensuring the aesthetic meets the Designer’s vision. The position will communicate and partner with cross-functional teams to ensure the timely delivery of new product.

Responsibilities

  • Develop garments using clear visual and written communication in the tech packs to ensure the desired outcome. This includes graded measurements, construction details, detail sketches, digital tools, and pattern adjustments. Tech Packs are consistently accurate.
  • Responsible for ensuring consistency of fit within assigned category, developing and utilizing blocks when needed.
  • Responsible for the sample evaluation process, including measuring samples, garment specs, and construction evaluations.
  • Conduct fit sessions with cross-functional teams ensuring the garment meets the aesthetic vision of design, as well as fits, functions, and meets the desired needs for end use. TD at this level should be able to do this with limited input from Supervisor.
  • Develop, build, and maintain construction spec standards and templates for assigned area. Create technical sketches including construction details and other detailed sketches as required.
  • Review and analyzes grading consistently and make suggestions and recommendations to improve fit, function, and appearance of garments.
  • Know the market and identify key competitors. Measure, evaluate, and analyze competitive garments in partnership with cross-functional teams.
  • Utilize systems to track product development and communicate status to cross-functional partners. Adhere to Go-to-Market Calendar deadlines for all parts of the development process.
  • Travel to vendors to execute Fit & Development requirements as needed.
  • Work in partnership with Technical Design team and peers to achieve business objectives; may mentor TD1s to gain leadership experience.
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience required in Apparel/Textile Design or Related Field
Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree
Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Skilled in fit, patternmaking, and grading principles.
  • Ability to manage and lead Fit Sessions with Cross-Functional Teams.
  • Proficient in computer skills: Excel, Word, Illustrator, and PLM systems.
  • Exposure and some experience with DPC (Digital Product Creation) software: CLO, Browsware, Optitex or similar preferred but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to organize and to prioritize workload.
  • Communication: written and oral communication skills required.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work in a changing environment.

Office Environment
Moderate Lifting (15-30 lbs)
Willing to work some weekends if necessary
Travel (10%)
Hybrid location: Associate will work on-site regularly as needed for work activities.
