Job Description


Itron enables utilities to use more meaningfully use AMI data to manage energy and water. The Technical Program Manager (PM) at Itron is responsible for the delivery of analytics projects for multiple customers. They are responsible for all aspects of a project including project management, customer interaction, setting and meeting project goals, requirement definition and documentation, and issue resolution. The PM will prioritize, oversee, and ensure quality for the work of analysts, data scientists, and software developers assigned to the projects. A successful PM will be passionate about using data to generate impactful insights and have a strong desire to partner with customers to create new business value using analytics.


Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead interactions with customers, both formal and informal.
  • Document project goals, plans, timelines, as-completed work efforts, meeting notes, issues, risks, and any other contracted requirements.
  • Coordinate the work efforts of multiple staff to achieve planned objectives.
  • Hold responsibility for the quality of project delivery and propose action plans for underperforming projects.
  • Act as the first escalation point for issues, listening to the customer perspective and helping resolve issues, engaging supporting teams as appropriate.
  • Ensure performance and continuity of SaaS analytics software deployments.
  • Manage new use case and software product development:
    • Lead customer discovery meetings
    • Turn customer requests into requirements that can be handed off to analysts, data scientists, and/or software developers
    • Manage customer communication
    • Oversee work quality and product delivery
    • Organize and lead customer training sessions on new features and functionality.
  • Create new or improve existing algorithms based on customer or other input.
  • Develop data visualizations that illuminate business insights.
  • Manage a team of analysts, data scientists, and software developers assigned to the projects.
  • Interface with internal customers (Sales, Engineering and Product Development organizations in particular) on product and systems improvements or upsell opportunities.
  • BS Degree in Engineering, Data Science, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or other quantitative field. Advanced degree is desired.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a customer facing role and/or as a project manager.
  • 1-2 years of experience developing and/or managing development of analytics and data visualizations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and history of success in a customer-facing role.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and to organize, prioritize and manage multiple tasks and concurrent analytics projects.
  • A strong fundamental understanding of analytic techniques and desire for continuous learning in an evolving field.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of SQL including queries, stored procedures, and indexing.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience using data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, etc.
  • Experience managing SaaS software deployments is preferred.
  • Experience working with utilities and understanding their business challenges is desirable.
  • Experience with additional languages such as C#, Python, Javascript, HTML, R, etc. are a plus.

The successful candidate's starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills and experience.

San Diego, CA: The annual base salary ranges from $92,000- $175,000.
