The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with comprehensive expertise in meteorology, including forecasting, graphic preparation, field reporting, and multi-platform coverage. This role requires a passion for leadership and mentorship, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment. The Chief Meteorologist will deliver accurate and compelling forecasts, focus on severe weather and hurricane coverage, drive community involvement, and implement cutting-edge technologies for enhanced weather storytelling.Responsibilities• Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with the News Director to develop and implement a strategic vision for weather coverage.• Engaging Weathercasts: Produce and deliver daily, captivating weathercasts for on-air and digital audiences.• Team Supervision: Oversee weather team operations, including scheduling and performance management.• Audience Interaction: Engage with viewers across multiple platforms, especially during severe weather events.• Recruitment and Hiring: Assist the News Director in recruiting and hiring talented weather team members.• Mentorship: Provide regular coaching and feedback to develop the weather team’s skills and performance.• Severe Weather Planning: Work with the News Director and Managers to create comprehensive severe weather coverage plans.• Content Creation: Develop and pitch original weather content for diverse platforms.• Technology Integration: Lead the integration of new graphics and technological advancements.• Community Engagement: Participate in community outreach and station appearances as needed.• Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned by the News Director.Requirements• Bachelor's degree in Meteorology; AMS Certification• Minimum 7 years of on-air experience• Demonstrated leadership experience• Strong communication skills (written/oral)• Ability to work under pressure while meeting daily assigned deadlines• Applicable knowledge of multiplatform newsgathering tools and resources• Fluent with social media platforms and social management tools, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube.BenefitsTEGNA offers comprehensive benefits designed to safeguard the physical, mental and financial health of our employees and their families.
