Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Temporary Research Assistant for the Department of Medicine within the New Jersey Medical School. Under direction of the Principal Investigator, the Temporary Research Assistant will assist in laboratory investigations to support translational/clinical/epidemiologic research studies of tuberculosis, COVID-19 and/or other infectious diseases. Studies include use of new diagnostics and biomarkers for early disease detection, including resource-limited settings, and developing streamlined methods for large-scale screening of TB and/or COVID-19.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Works safely in a BSL2 lab environment, compliant with biosafety protocols, to assist with microbiological or molecular assays including biospecimen processing and storage, nucleic acid extraction, and RT-PCR/PCR.
  • Assist with development of lab protocols, supply procurement, and data analysis.
  • Generate, compile, and present data with appropriate conclusions, recommendations, etc. pertinent to research activity.
  • Assist with data entry and quality control of research data.
  • Assists with the preparation of manuscripts.
  • Collaborates on projects with other students and research interns – demonstrates good team spirit and communication skills.

  • If not enrolled in a degree-granting program, then a minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Availability of at least 15 hours/week (minus black-out dates for educational commitments) preferred during semesters and full time over the summer.
  • Previous laboratory research experience is a bonus.
