A day in the life of a Practice Manager-Hematology/Oncology at The Iowa Clinic:
  • Manages, coordinates and directs the overall operational activities of assigned department(s) including multiple site locations.  (West Des Moines, Waukee, Ankeny, Grimes)
  • Works closely with the physicians and administrative directors in assuming accountability for maintaining high-quality cost-effective services. 
  • Hires, orients, supervises, evaluates performance, disciplines and terminates staff. 
  • Maintains awareness of applicable laws and/or regulations affecting the clinic and assures compliance. 
  • Participates in strategic and long-range planning. 
  • Promotes a positive, professional image of the organization internally and externally.
  • Assumes accountability for enhancing own knowledge through professional associations, journals, workshops, in-services, etc. to pro-actively keep updated on potential issues affecting the clinic.
  • Maintains awareness of applicable laws and/or regulations and remains current on changes. 
  • Recognizes implications of applicable laws and/or regulations to the clinic and implements or recommends courses of action to ensure compliance. 


Practice Manager Requirements:   
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance or health care related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 years previous supervisory experience in a medical setting preferred.
  • Clinic background preferred
