I could do that!"What does this team do?Motley Fool Ventures is an early stage, technology-focused venture capital firm, powered by The Motley Fool's investing approach and communities. We manage over $250M across two funds on behalf of over 1,000 Foolish investors.What would you do in this role?As an Associate or Senior Associate at Motley Fool Ventures, you'll be involved in all aspects of the investment process, from sourcing and evaluating new opportunities to managing and advising portfolio companies. This role demands a blend of analytical prowess, excellent communication skills, and a proactive mindset.But what does this role actually do?• Sourcing: Cultivate a network of VCs, service providers, operators, and industry experts to drive deal flow. Represent the firm at events and on calls. Develop investing theses, identify potential investments, and engage with A LOT of founders (you should be meeting virtually with founders every day).• Diligence: Provide analytical support to the investing team. Conduct in-depth due diligence, including writing detailed sections of investment memos, performing reference calls, and building and analyzing financial and valuation models.• Portfolio Management: Track and manage financial performance and key performance indicators (KPIs) of portfolio companies. Build and maintain positive relationships with portfolio company founders, and offer value-additive advice and introductions as appropriate.• Relationship Building: Foster and maintain strong relationships with entrepreneurs, co-investors, and advisors, and act as a brand ambassador for the firm.What do you need to apply?• 3-5+ years of work experience in venture capital, private equity, investment banking, big 4 accounting, management consulting, or a similar field.• Start-up experience is also welcomed.• Proficient in financial modeling, valuation, and advanced spreadsheet use.• Understanding of accounting and basic VC modeling (e.g., pro forma, waterfall). Fluent in business, startup, and investing terms.• Self-motivated and able to handle high-pressure situations with minimal supervision.• Demonstrated ability to think critically and make decisions under pressure.• A strong work ethic - unfazed by the fast-paced, high-stakes world of venture capital.• Ability to articulate complex concepts in an understandable way, whether it's writing, speaking, or presenting.• Comfort with flying solo and ability to make a positive impression and represent the firm well on intro calls with founders, other investors, and beyond• Team player mentality and zero-drama attitude. We're all Fools here, and we believe in collaboration, respect, and a good sense of humor.Nice to have:• A track record of investing is a plus.• A bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a quantitative field (math, science, engineering) is appreciated, but we're open to all backgrounds.• An MBA or CFA is a plus but not required.
