You will be responsible for an array of projects. You will partner with editorial and visual teams to create memorable presentations for print and digital endeavors, overseeing art direction and impactful online presentations. We are looking for someone who is apragmatic innovator whose solutions elicit responses that justify the effort and investment.You will be responsible for art commissions, building and maintaining a roster of inclusive diverse talent, and, in partnership with the Design Director, developing a distinct in-house illustrative style for Opinion. You will alsocollaborate with colleagues of different backgrounds and widely-ranging technical levels.Please submit a portfolio demonstrating strong design work, a solid understanding of layout, typography and storytelling techniques.But just as important, we’re looking for someone who is experienced working with collaborators when they reach the limits of their expertise.Basic Requirements:• 5+ years of digital design experience• Experience with visual and interactive design — a clear grasp of typography, layout, color, motion and behavior• Familiarity with Figma or Adobe Sketch and Adobe Indesign• Track record assigning and commissioning illustrations for digital projects• An interest in narrative and visual storytelling, in journalism, and in the publishing industry at largePreferred Requirements:• Demonstrated experience envisioning and directing the creation of presentations that intelligently incorporate audio, video, still images and text• Extreme attention to detail and excellent written and oral communication skills• Positive attitude taking on all parts of a project, from production to delivery• Ability to meet deadlines and to adapt to a sometimes unpredictable production environment• Familiarity with competitors and also the new challenges and opportunities created by the changing media landscape• Open to working a flexible schedule that may occasionally include nights or weekendsThe annual base pay range for this role is between $120,126.82 and $141,000.00.The New York Times is committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce, one that reflects the varied global community we serve.
