Role: Senior Manager, Prospect Management and Research

Location: This role will be remote in the continental United States, Alaska, or Hawaii

Reports to: Senior Director Development Operations

Eligibility: Authorization to work for any employer in the United States is required. The Trevor Project will not sponsor a work visa for this role.

Salary Range: 95k - 105k


Summary: 

The Senior Manager of Prospect Management and Research is a critical leadership role at The Trevor Project, tasked with overseeing and advancing the donor Prospect Management and Donor Research programs. This role serves as a strategic and tactical partner to the organization’s philanthropy verticals, enhancing fundraising through the strategic development of donor portfolios and the precise identification and qualification of prospective donors. This role demands a leader who can seamlessly blend strategic oversight with practical application, ensuring that all prospect management and research activities robustly support The Trevor Project’s fundraising objectives and philanthropic mission. The Senior Manager of Prospect Management and Research is essential for enhancing the effectiveness of our fundraising efforts through meticulous research, strategic management of donor prospects, and comprehensive training and support for philanthropy staff.



What You'll Do
  • Research and Resource Development: Build and maintain a comprehensive prospect management and research strategy focused on pivotal data to drive growth. Evaluate and develop a broad suite of research resources and manage vendor relationships to meet the evolving research needs.
  • Donor Pool Management and Expansion: Play a key role in refining the major gift donor pool, managing the processes, data flows, and reporting essential for effective prospect management.
  • Strategic Leadership and Integration: Collaborate with various philanthropy verticals to promote integrated, holistic donor engagement experiences, aligning efforts across the organization to optimize donor relationships and contributions.
  • Information and Monitoring Initiatives: Assess and anticipate the need for information, monitoring, and reporting. Initiate support activities and collaborate on engagement strategies for prospects. Set standards for information organization, storage, maintenance, and retrieval in the constituent database.
  • Trends and Analysis: Monitor and communicate current trends in fundraising, philanthropy, and business. Analyze, evaluate, and disseminate information critical to securing major gifts. Lead data mining and modeling initiatives to support prospect identification, segmentation, and management.
  • Training and Support: Develop training materials and educate staff on the methodology of the prospect management system and prospect pipeline. Provide research profiles and briefings for the CEO, Executive Team, and other staff as needed.
  • System Management and Policy Development: Manage the prospect management system within the constituent database to ensure current and accurately coded prospects. Establish guidelines and policies for the ethical management of all donor and prospect information.
  • Relationship Mapping and Board Support: Identify prospects’ networks through relationship mapping to facilitate organizational engagement. Serve as a research resource for the Board to support board nominating activities.
  • Collaborative Partnerships and Team Involvement: Partner with relationship managers for prospect review and analysis of their portfolios. Actively participate in the Development and Development Operations teams to ensure the achievement of overall goals. Support the creation and management of annual budgets, and plan and organize team meetings.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in prospect research, donor relations, or fundraising within a non-profit environment.

Proficiency in: 
  • Proven expertise in prospect research, donor segmentation, and moves management within a major gifts framework.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective prospect management strategies and research methodologies.
  • Strong command of CRM systems and donor databases(preferably Salesforce), with the ability to oversee data management practices including data analysis, mining, and modeling.
  • Knowledge of current trends in philanthropy, fundraising techniques, and ethical guidelines pertaining to donor information management.
  • People Manager only: Experience leading, developing, coaching, and managing the performance of direct reports (For first-time people manager roles:  Experience training and mentoring others.) 
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English


$95,000 - $105,000 a year
