Position Details
The University of Tampa Office for Human Resources is seeking a Title IX Coordinator to provide Title IX services to the University, creating a safe and respectful educational and workplace environment by addressing instances of discrimination based on sex through federal law, university policy, investigation, informal problem-solving, and education. The position will report to the Legal Counsel in the Office of Human Resources. This role’s primary responsibility will be to oversee the University’s Title IX compliance with laws, rules, and University policies and procedures on sex-based discrimination and harassment in education and the university workplace.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the University’s Title IX compliance efforts, including the development, implementation, and monitoring of appropriate policies, procedures, and practices designed to ensure compliance.
  • Coordinate University Title IX and Workplace Compliance education, training, and case management efforts along with Deputy Title IX Coordinators.
  • Oversee, and at times serve as an Investigator on, Title IX investigations, ensuring they are prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations of reports of violations of University Policy (e.g., Title IX and Sexual Harassment, Employee Handbook, etc.)
  • Ensure timely investigation and resolution of reports of discrimination and harassment involving members of the University by processing complaints in accordance with university policy and procedures.
  • Provides information to individuals seeking information about reporting, policies, procedures, rights, and resources in the community. Makes recommendations and coordinates appropriate supportive measures.
  • Develops a case management plan and coordinates University Title IX support for grievance procedures.
  • Perform informal resolution, as deemed appropriate, to address complaints, concerns, or allegations.
  • Stay abreast of related federal, state, and local laws. Ensure university policy and procedure is maintained in accordance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Develop and maintain Title IX policy and grievance procedure documents and Title IX training presentations.
  • Maintain a comprehensive case management system that includes all reported complaints.
  • Perform full scope of activities associated with workplace learning and development, implementing a comprehensive employee development plan for compliance training.
  • Develop ongoing communication to heighten awareness of safety, risk, and compliance, as well as to disseminate information and collect employee, student, and university feedback.
  • Seek to ensure that all appropriate employees and management are knowledgeable of, and comply with, institutional policies and pertinent federal and state standards.
  • Provide advice and guidance to staff, faculty, and students on the interpretation and application of institutional policies, practices, and procedures related to Title IX and workplace compliance.
  • Work collaboratively with various offices at the University to ensure the institution's compliance with the Title IX, Clery Act, and associated regulations.
  • Oversee, manage, and maintain a Title IX reporting system and procedure for employees, students, and the university community to report concerns and obtain assistance; refer non-Title IX complaints to appropriate University departments, as received and deemed necessary.
  • Implement and monitor education programs and activities to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Develop and prepare comprehensive reports; compile and maintain reports related to internal claims and inquiries and prepare an annual report of internal complaints based on report information.
  • Analyze and submit required statistical reports regarding compliance activities as appropriate.
  • Evaluate statistics to identify existing and developing problems related to Title IX compliance policies and other regulatory requirements; assist with the development and delivery of various programs designed to address identified problems.
  • Ensure adequate records are maintained, in accordance with federal regulation, state laws and University guidelines, to document compliance efforts and corrective actions.
  • Participate in researching legislation and compliance regulations, as appropriate.
  • Knowledge and experience working with federal laws, regulations, and guidance important to postsecondary education, e.g., Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, ADA, Clery, VAWA, FERPA.
  • Familiarity with Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) (e.g., Title VII Civil Rights Act, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, Age Discrimination, Americans with Disability Act).
  • Oversee a committee of key stakeholders.
  • Recruit, develop and train a certified team available to serve in Title IX matters.
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  • Serve on behalf of Human Resources on various related university committees.
  • Complete other projects as assigned.
  • Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage those with other cultures and backgrounds.
Requirements
  • Advanced degree in human resources, legal studies, education, or a related field is required. A J.D., Ph.D., Ed.D., or a master’s degree in an applicable field is preferred (e.g., Human Resources, Law, Management, Compliance, Higher Education Administration, Organizational Development, or other related field).
  • Five plus (5+) years of progressive experience in higher education or related industry. Two (2) years of related educational experience may compensate for work experience.
  • Knowledge of employment and educational regulatory requirements, guidelines, and procedures for the administration of federal and state laws on civil rights, such as ADA, 503/504, Title VI, Title VII and Title IX, and the Clery Act.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate with individuals in the community and at all levels of the institution and receive and relay information in a tactful manner.
  • Experience with database management systems (experience with Workday is a plus).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite including advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, work on private matters, and act with responsibility in a fast paced, service-oriented setting.
  • Good presentation and writing skills.
  • Relevant certification in Title IX or workplace investigations.
  • Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.

Summer: Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
