Reporter -Digital Content Centre

Company Description

Metroland is looking for a curious, creative, and energetic reporter to join its Digital Content Team. This is a full-time permanent position.

OUR COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY

We strive to be a leader in building and cultivating an employee community framed around fairness, support and opportunity. We believe that what makes us different, makes a difference. And as a team, the diversity of our backgrounds, interests and experiences is what enriches our work, and our workplaces. We welcome all, and we strive for an inclusive culture that allows individual growth and shared success.

Job Description

Metroland is looking for a versatile, creative and enterprising reporter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can give our audiences the news they need in efficient, effective and digestible formats.

This job is quick moving, high-energy and – if you’re wired this way -- really fun. The successful candidate will use digital listening tools and collaborate with editors to understand what the audience is hungry for while staying firmly connected to Metroland’s principles and commitment to quality journalism.

The ideal candidate understands that a story can take on many shapes and incorporates elements including text, photography, graphics, video, audio, social embeds and in-depth interactives. You will use those building blocks to create explainers, quick hits, lists, stories told in images, matchers and videos for multiple platforms. At times you will be called on to pull together reporting from across Metroland’s community newsrooms and other sources to craft a narrative that keeps the reader hooked to the end, and still wanting more.

Salary Range $37,475.37 to $56,267.17

Deadline to apply for this role is: October 31, 2024

Qualifications

  • You have a diploma or degree in journalism or in a related field.
  • 2 to 5 years’ experience with a news outlet or similar role
  • Excellent news judgment, writing skills and storytelling ability
  • You love a deadline and excel in a fast-paced, demanding yet creative environment.
  • You ‘get’ social media and know how to use different platforms to source and share information.
  • You understand the importance of SEO and online best practices and use these to reach a wider audience.
  • You’re a self-starter able to generate unique and compelling story ideas, but also a team player who loves to collaborate and is easily assignable
  • You have knowledge of Canadian Press style
  • You can work remotely.
