ABOUT THE JOB

Galileo is looking for an experienced, multi-site staff leader to join our team as a Training, Development, and Community Manager. As Galileo grows our presence and sites in Chicagoland, this role will be instrumental in creating a best-in-class staff experience for our Camp Directors and summer staff, which in turn will create an exceptional camp experience for our valued families. The Training, Development, and Community Manager will also support and execute community marketing efforts, activities, and events to boost Galileo’s growth and enrollment across Chicagoland.

YOU WILL

You will be the primary manager of the Camp Directors of each of Galileo’s Chicagoland locations, ensuring a supportive, joyful, and professionally fulfilling experience for these education leaders. Camp Directors work for Galileo for 9 months out of the year on a part time basis, and you will be responsible for hiring, onboarding, training, supporting, and leading this group of talented education professionals. You will also be their primary manager and support during the camp season, and will be responsible for supporting them through the day-to-day operations of our camp locations. Additionally, you will support all community marketing efforts for Galileo in Chicagoland. Reporting directly to the Territory Director, your time will include the following essential responsibilities, mapped against our seasonal work schedule.

To manage the Camp Director team, you will:
  • Partner with our People Operations Team to hire, onboard, train, and support our Camp Director team throughout the hiring process and the pre-camp season.
  • Create and execute joyful team culture events.
  • Partner with the Field team to plan, execute, and evaluate annual retreats.
  • Create, deliver, and analyze professional development and ongoing education of the Chicago Camp Director team as well as the National Camp Director team.
  • Support Camp Directors with their staff on site during the summer months, creating professional development opportunities, giving timely feedback, and ensuring safe, welcoming staff teams that value belonging, joy, and camp innovation & fun.

To support the growth of Galileo in Chicagoland, you will:
  • Be the primary Chicagoland Community marketing liaison between Chicago and headquarters. Work with the Sr. Manager Field Marketing to bring to life field marketing activity in the territory, develop great local relationships, and develop good knowledge of the market.
  • Be the primary point of contact for community marketing events, communications, and campaigns with Chicago’s host schools, feeder schools, community partners, and families.
  • Iterate and innovate, creating new and exciting ways to increase Galileo’s enrollment year over year, and therefore our impact.
  • Support Camp Directors in marketing activities as needed once camp has launched to continue to increase enrollment while camp is running.

To support both the headquarters team in Oakland and Chicago, you will:
  • Assist as needed with facility partnerships and relationship building.
  • Participate in committee work that furthers the internal culture and community at Galileo.
  • Manage team traditions, culture, and events that support an inclusive, joyful Chicago Galileo community and team.

YOU ARE

  • You’re inspired by Galileo’s mission and purpose and can tell that story. You believe innovation education, project-based learning, and joyful camp experiences change lives. You can use storytelling to bring people along to your vision, knowing what resonates with audiences so that ultimately Galileo is a first-choice camp for families, staff, and our partners.
  • You love being a staff manager. You are committed to building strong, high-performing teams that are dedicated to Galileo’s mission, and know how to allocate resources to create an environment of belonging, commitment, and joy. You love professional development, and seek to bring your servant leadership to bear with all staff members to ensure they grow and thrive on your team. You are a strategic problem solver and hard-working do-er who can manage a variety of projects simultaneously. You are committed to quality, you’ll set the bar high for yourself and for your team, and will consistently exceed expectations.
  • You sweat the small stuff, and use data to drive towards results. You are detail oriented, great at creating and maintaining workplans, and equally comfortable helping and supporting your team navigating the tricky bits to get to the big picture goals. You love data, and are comfortable analyzing it to create next steps, help inform decisions, and to guide priorities and goals.
  • You are committed to youth development, and love working with kids and families, particularly during out of school time. You love the opportunity to develop kids outside of the conventional classroom, further deepening their skills, passions, and joy within a supportive community.
  • You love Chicago. You have a passion for connecting deeply with the educational leaders, community and families who live there and are eager to contribute your leadership and community connection skills to grow Galileo and deepen our positive impact in the city and suburbs.
YOU HAVE
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
