The Dispatcher/Radio Communications Coordinates and disseminates information to Coach Operators and Supervisors and other pertinent staff involved in helping to provide on-time service of coaches on routes. 
 
Essential Job Functions:
                                                                               
Coordinates information and responses for accidents/incidents and emergency situations
  • Clears radio of all traffic; obtains important information from Coach Operators concerning direction, location and problem
  • Relays information to supervisors and other services if needed (emergency and police)
  • Relays route change and delay information if needed and assigns new buses
  • Documents and reviews the Radio System and/or log and assures that the situation has been managed until completion
 
Acts as a liaison providing operational information to MTS and other public entities;
  • Exchanges information with the MTS concerning customer service, detour and other important operational information hourly
  • Relays information to appropriate people (Operator, Supervisors)
  • Notifies MTS of down time daily
 
Coordinates and monitors all call and operator reliefs
  • Monitors radio and all incoming calls
  • Assists Operators with passenger transfer information and lost and found
  • Provides Time Location Checks (TLC) to supervisors
  • Maintains accurate log book-keys in updates and activities monitored over the radio
  • Notifies authorities, utilities and other agencies of problems reported by Operators
  • Provides information to maintenance in coach exchanges (both scheduled maintenance and unscheduled maintenance and repair)
  • Determines if Operator relief is by car or coach, if relief is by coach, ensure that passengers are transferred to the new bus and the route continues
  • Determines time to relief location and the amount of down time; determines if coach should  continue on route of if there is adequate time for relief
  • Writes Observation Notices regarding Transdev Transportation Rules or Policy infractions as well as Pat on the Backs for assisting the company with route and service coverage
Education, Licensing, and Certifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, required
  • Must have a valid CA drivers license
  • Must be age 21 or older
  • Must be able to obtain Class B or higher Commercial Driver’s License with passenger and airbrake endorsements within 90 days of hire. 
Experience:
  • One to two years of dispatch and/or customer service experience preferred
Skills and Knowledge Required: 
  • One (1) year experience in heavy radio or dispatch required, preferably in a transit environment
  • Must be able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Must be able to communicate instructions and directions in an extremely busy environment
  • Proven ability to quickly analyze a situation and provide an effective solution is essential
  • Ability to work under stressful situations essential
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn working systems of coaches a must
  • Must be able to communicate in written form
  • Knowledge of two-way radio systems is essential
  • Basic math skills required
Travel requirement (as a percent): <5% for occasional meetings
 
Pre-Employment Requirements: 
  • Must submit to drug testing and a criminal background check
  •  Must be able to maintain a DOT medical card
 
Physical Requirements: 
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
  • Majority of work is accomplished indoors and in air conditioned or well ventilated facilities
  • Majority of work is accomplished in an office or in a cubicle space equipped with a telephone and computer.
  • The employee is generally subjected to long periods spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer screen.
