Inside the Role
This is a Teamsters Local 81 position. The driver will work with a team of drivers in the Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) Local Cartage fleet to support our Truck Manufacturing Plants, Corporate Consolidation Center, and local vendors. This position will start out as a Casual driver with further opportunity to expand into the Local Cartage and Test Fleet.
Each driver has a specified job role assigned to them to support operations. This job role is decided based on a quarterly bid based on seniority in the Union. This is a team oriented environment with the expectation of helping each other out whenever possible. This position works very closely with the docks and dispatcher to identify the moves and pickups that need to be completed throughout that day.
We Take Care of Our Team
Responsibilities

Enter and exit the cab of the truck multiple times a day

Climb onto the back of the truck to connect the glad handles from the truck to the trailer

Raise and lower the landing gears of the trailer with the crank

Open and close trailer doors

Climb into the back of trailers

Use straps to tie down freight on flatbed truck

Open the hood of the truck to access the engine

Walk from truck to docks throughout day

Carry or lift up to 75 pounds

Fill out daily logs of tasks completed and Daily Vehicle Inspections Reports

Review, read, and understand Manifests and Bill of Ladings

Identify potentially hazardous situations

Maneuver truck and trailer in tight areas

Clearly communicate with driver fleet, dispatcher, docks, railroad ramps, and vendors

Utilize Push To Talk phones to communicate with other drivers and dispatcher

Utilize computers and touchscreens to operate PeopleNet (electronic logs) and a Yard Management System
Qualifications

5+ Years of experience required
-
Hazardous Material Certified required
-
Understanding of driver regulations and Hours of Service required

Clear history of accidents required

An attached resume is required

High school diploma (or equivalent) required
