The Role:


As a member of the Product team, the Data Scientist is responsible for designing and implementing automated solutions for survey and data processing workflows, managing the efficient creation of Tunnl Audiences, and ensuring scalability and adaptability across our operations. Specifically, this person will be dedicated to finding innovative ways to automate our survey processes, modeling workflows, audience creation, and ETL pipelines. This involves strategically thinking about ways to enhance efficiency and reduce manual errors through scalable, automated processes in a way that is methodologically sound. At the same time, this person will discern when automation is not feasible and develop manageable workflows for custom requests with the team. 


We are looking for a curious, self-starter, who applies creative, scalable, systems-thinking to process challenges and has a desire to play both a strategic and hands-on role. The Data Scientist will report to our VP of Product. This role can be hybrid based onsite in our headquarters in Arlington, VA or remote with periodic visits to the office.


Responsibilities:


* Identify, design, and implement automated or technology-enabled solutions to enhance existing workflows in research, modeling, and audience creation

* Ensure the scalability and adaptability of operations across product lifecycle stages

* Seek opportunities to enhance or streamline processes across various data sources

* Maintain relationships with panel providers, calling houses, and other critical vendors

* Oversee survey fielding process with vendors and internal stakeholders ensuring quality data, optimized pricing, and quota considerations

* Provide methodological expertise as it relates to survey research, survey collection, quota setting, and various modeling and segmentation techniques

* Develop, maintain, and optimize ETL processes for large-scale dataset manipulation and transfer

* Oversee internal ETL and audience creation requests, ensuring timely and accurate delivery to both internal and external stakeholders

* Work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders, including data engineers, ETL, executive stakeholders, account managers, etc., to understand and document requirements for delivering scalable solutions

* Communicate complex technical challenges clearly to non-technical stakeholders

* Present ideas effectively to external clients and stakeholders, ensuring clarity and engagement in all communications

* Collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams

* Manage, lead, and mentor team members, managing multiple projects simultaneously

* Plan, prioritize, and execute tasks independently, optimizing team dynamics and workflow for peak productivity


Qualifications:


* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent working experience in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field; Masters or PhD in related fields considered a plus

* 5-8 years of proven experience in automation, data engineering, or a similar role

* Advanced proficiency in Python for designing and implementing automated workflows; familiarity with R for statistical analysis

* Proficient with ETL tools such as Databricks

* Strong understanding of SQL and experience managing database systems like Amazon Athena

* In-depth knowledge of cloud services like AWS with a focus on data processing and storage

* Expertise in data processing frameworks, particularly Apache Spark

* Capability to plan, prioritize, and execute tasks independently

* Experience leading teams, mentoring staff, and organizing workflows for peak productivity

* Ability to analyze data, identify issues, and implement effective solutions

* Demonstrated ability to work well within cross-functional teams 

* Fluency in translating and communicating complex technical challenges to non-technical stakeholders

* Skilled in presenting ideas effectively to external clients and stakeholders, ensuring clarity and engagement in all communications
