Global Manager, R&D and Systems (Insurance) | Work from home, Midshift

The Global Manager, R&D and Systems plays a critical strategic role in driving innovation, operational improvements, and system development initiatives across the client's insurance operations. Reporting directly to the Managing Director and collaborating with key internal departments and external partners, this role involves researching, planning, and delivering system-led, data-backed projects that improve performance, enhance policy offerings, and support business growth across global markets.

The ideal candidate brings a robust background in insurance, hands-on experience with system development and digital transformation, a strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, and the proven ability to manage end-to-end projects. The role also requires excellent communication skills for managing stakeholders, vendors, and third-party relationships across regions.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Research & Innovation

• Conduct detailed industry analysis, competitive benchmarking, and market research to shape product development strategies.
• Deliver ongoing pricing research to assess global positioning and policy competitiveness.
• Recommend opportunities for product enhancement or new offerings using insights from claims data, customer feedback, and international trends.
• Champion innovation and identify technology-led opportunities for growth and efficiency.

Project Management & Delivery

• Scope, plan, and lead cross-functional initiatives with measurable outcomes in policy systems, pricing tools, claims automation, or client experience platforms.
• Manage timelines, risks, deliverables, and team collaboration from concept to deployment.
• Ensure all developments adhere to compliance and regulatory frameworks and integrate seamlessly into business operations.

Stakeholder Engagement & Vendor Management

• Coordinate effectively with executive leadership, internal departments, insurance partners, technology vendors, and regulators.
• Oversee vendor contracts, expectations, and deliverables across various system development or data implementation projects.
• Present business cases and recommendations with supporting data to C-suite and board stakeholders.

Insurance Policy & Regulatory Alignment

• Stay informed on evolving compliance standards, governance frameworks, and regulatory policies (e.g., APRA, FCA, ASIC).
• Ensure all product and system developments are audit-ready and compliant.
• Work closely with compliance and legal teams to ensure regional adaptation of policy terms, pricing updates, and documentation.

Business Expansion & M&A Integration

• Support company mergers and acquisitions with system audits, integration planning, and post-merger consolidation.
• Align policy data and system infrastructure between legacy and acquired operations.
• Participate in business transformation initiatives to support international expansion and product portfolio growth.

Data, Analytics & Reporting

• Build and monitor dashboards and KPIs related to product performance, pricing elasticity, claims trends, and innovation ROI.
• Collaborate with the data and finance teams to measure profitability and identify optimization opportunities.
• Communicate technical and analytical findings in a structured and commercially strategic way.

• 10+ years of insurance industry experience, ideally within pet or general insurance products.

• Demonstrated experience managing complex projects and business transformation initiatives.
• Advanced knowledge of policy management systems, pricing tools, digital workflows, and customer-facing technologies.
• Exceptional cross-functional stakeholder management, including executive-level presentations.
• Proven track record of vendor management and system implementation.
• Deep understanding of regulatory and compliance frameworks in insurance markets.
• Highly analytical with the ability to transform data into strategic insights.
• Agile and/or PMP certification preferred; tertiary qualifications in Insurance, Technology, Business, or related field.
• Experience supporting high-growth or scale-up insurance businesses.
• Strong commercial lens and understanding of product P&L.
• Experience with M&A activity or systems integration post-acquisition.
• Passion for pets and interest in the pet care ecosystem.
