The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver campus which sits on the traditional, ancestral, unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) First Nation invites applications for a full-time Research Associate position in Data Analytics and Intelligent Systems.
The appointment is one year with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and job performance. The anticipated start date is July 1st, 2025. The anticipated salary is $90,000/year.
Chemical Engineering www.chbe.ubc.ca was established at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 1915, as the first Canadian chemical engineering program west of Ontario, and a separate Department of Chemical Engineering was established in 1954. The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering was established in 1999, and reflects the growing need for engineers in the fields of biotechnology, biomedical and bio-resource engineering.
This position strengthens the research functions in Data Analytics and Intelligent Systems. The Research Associate will be responsible for the following duties:
Developing the research strategy and plan of the Urban Data Lake.
Planning and executing data driven research with Faculty and Staff at the Point Grey and Okanagan campuses.
Disseminating research findings through publication in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals
Liaising with stakeholders involved in the research projects, including those from industry and government.
Engaging with practitioners and academics and working closely with research assistants, students, and highly qualified personnel to enhance the research by the Data Analytics and Intelligent Systems Lab and the Sauder Centre for Climate and Business Solutions.
Applicants must meet the requirements below.
A Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Business Information Systems or relevant disciplines
Relevant publications in high-impact peer-reviewed.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing Faculty-led research projects.
Minimum of two years teaching experience relevant to data analytics and information systems field
Expertise in designing and developing research that leverages big data, machine learning models and data algorithms.
Experience in organizing, coordinating, and managing research projects as evidenced by a minimum of five grant-based research programs.
A clear understanding of the academic research process acquired through practical and academic experience
Work experience in data analytics and software development.
