POSITION DESCRIPTION

Coordinates all employee and position changes in support of temporary employees. Responsibilities include supporting the processing of payroll on a bi-weekly basis. Act as a consultant to department supervisors and temporary employees in payroll, personnel and benefits procedures and practices. Support onboarding and process offboarding of temporary employees. Serve as primary on workforce administration transactions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of payroll and timekeeping practices and procedures including leave accrual, salary scales, etc.

  • Must be bi-lingual. Fluency in English and Spanish required.

  • Skill to investigate and resolve payroll and personnel issues/problems.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and to use discretionary practices.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience advising employees regarding benefit program options.

  • Skill to do data entry and to modify existing records in computerized files.

  • Skill to perform basic math, including fractional and decimal calculations.

  • Skill to accurately operate computers, printers, typewriters, calculators, copiers, fax machine and other standard office machines.

  • Ability to create and maintain manual and computerized filing systems for rapid/easy retrieval by self and others.

  • Ability to interact with departmental, administrative and other staff and the public in a pleasant and professional manner with tact, diplomacy, poise and patience. Service oriented attitude.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in personnel practices and procedures including selection, release, affirmative action and EEO, etc.

  • Skill to analyze issues, problem solve and apply policies and procedures. Ability to think analytically and logically to devise solutions and procedures.

  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills requiring independent and mature judgement to interact effectively with diverse groups at all levels in an environment with changing priorities, deadlines, and frequent interruptions.

  • Ability to remember and follow standard procedures consistently.

  • Ability to ascertain those items that can be handled independently and those that should be referred to supervisor.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, to organize and prioritize work, and to use initiative to follow through (a large volume of detailed work) to completion in a timely manner despite frequent interruptions.

  • Demonstrated competency and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to work overtime as needed.

  • Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.

This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $40,700 - $81,850 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $19.49 - $39.20

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
