The social media unit supports and collaborates with Strategic Communications and its partners, including but not limited to Executive Communications, Media Relations, Admissions Marketing, Experiential Marketing, Vice Chancellor Communications, and Campus Marketing and Communications. Reporting to the Director of Social Media, the Associate Director of Social Media works in consultation with the Director to conceptualizing, creating, executing, measuring and advising on social media programs for UCLA Strategic Communications. Primary responsibilities include supervising the team's social media managers (lower level staff) to maintain and grow UCLA's social media channels and ensure integrated messaging compatible with branding and marketing programs. The Associate Director of Social Media manages the team's day-to-day operations and posting to UCLA's social media channels (Facebook, X, Instagram/Stories/Reels/Threads, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok and more), producing content for these channels; leveraging these channels to strengthen campaigns; amplifying partner content specific to their goals; promoting UCLA to news media; monitoring for trends and engaging with followers/community; assisting analytics team to develop insights; researching industry best practices for existing and emerging trends in social media; attending events (in-person when applicable) and providing coverage within and outside of normal business hours when necessary. The Associate Director of Social Media serves as the Director's direct partner to manage the team and serve as backup to the other Social Media Manager(s). Working hours include weekends, evenings, and holidays and may require light travel.

1. Minimum of three years professional social media work experience, including demonstrated success using social media to grow a consumer brand with measurable results.

2. Demonstrated engagement both personally and professionally, in social media.

3. Advanced knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.)

4. Knowledge/understanding of basic marketing principles and strategies.

5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build cooperative, effective relationships with UC System and UCLA campus administrators, faculty and members of the academic community, high-level staff, employees as well as donors and international visitors.

6. Ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and to maintain confidentiality.

7. Strong ownership, deadline-oriented and proven proactive management including ability to independently prioritize and track complex, competing schedules; proactively anticipate and complete tasks; and self-initiate programs.

8. Research and analytical skills sufficient to analyze problems in a multi-faceted way and to develop and implement innovative solutions as well as track the effectiveness of different techniques.

9. Possess strong internet research skills with the ability to find and compile interesting and relevant content (blog posts, news items, photos, video, etc.).

10. Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication and ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a willingness to work across departments to build project teams as well as with external partners.

11. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that is subject to last-minute changes; organizational skills to manage multiple jobs simultaneously, all while working with fixed schedules and deadlines.

12. Experience working cross-platform between Mac and PC environments; working knowledge of social media file conversion and specs/ratios.

16. Experience with content management and scheduling platforms (ex: Sprout, Sprinklr, Spredfast, Basecamp, Wordpress, etc.)

18. Ability to get to work reliably and on time and to be present in the workplace during normal working hours. Ability and willingness to work some evenings and weekends.

19. Skill in supervising student employees, including hiring, orienting, training, organizing workflow, monitoring and evaluating performance, and coaching and counseling when necessary.

20. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. Ability to kneel, climb stairs and ladders, push, balance, stoop, crouch, and reach.

21. Familiarity with design, image editing, and multimedia editing programs, such as InDesign, PhotoShop, Premiere, or other Adobe Creative Suite products.
