Under the general direction of the Program Director, the Program Manager (PM) is responsible for the overall planning, implementation, promotion and quality control of approximately 50 courses offered annually in the Engineering Custom Programs and Technical Management Program within UCLA Extension (UNEX).The Program Manager will provide creative and energetic oversight in the areas of program development & planning; marketing; program implementation; administration; budget formulation and tracking of short courses. Other duties include supervision of staff and oversight of various activities within the unit.The Custom Programs Unit offers courses both on-campus and at client's site locally, nationally and internationally. This unit also organizes and offers week-long training program on technical management twice a year.Required:• 2 years Professional work experience in academic program management and operations.• Ability to create a supportive culture and to foster individual motivation, high levels of individual and team performance, and high quality of service to customers.• Ability to resolve interpersonal and staffing problems with attention to preserving fairness, dignity, and respect for all concerned.• Demonstrated writing skills for composition of draft course descriptions, marketing copy, reports, memos, and other written materials.• Speaking and listening skills sufficient to interpret complex information on a one-to-one and group basis; ability to provide for the diplomatic and appropriate resolution of problems with instructors, students and staff.• Interpersonal skills sufficient to speak with and listen perceptively to persons of various social, cultural, educational, economic, ethnic, and other backgrounds and experiences, both in person and by telephone.• Ability to work as part of a team with co-workers and in committees, exchanging ideas, thoughts, and opinions, to develop and assess procedures, evaluate staff needs, or arrive jointly at departmental decisions.• Skill in data collection, analysis, and report preparation to compile financial reports and to assist in preparation of yearly departmental budget and quarterly review sessions; ability to analyze budget information to recommend feasible alternatives.• Ability to coherently and efficiently plan, organize, set priorities for, and implement a multifaceted set of activities and complex programs in accordance with the requirements imposed by overlapping deadlines.• Ability to develop course and program ideas with creativity and resourcefulness and to adapt ideas of prospective instructors into marketable courses.• Skill in supervision, including the ability to motivate, listen actively, mediate between two or more staff members, help staff prioritize among competing tasks, and to create systems, procedures and workflow management strategies for the processing of large amount of work under pressure of varied deadlines.• Demonstrated skills and experience with computer systems and software such as Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point. Experience with internet research and managing social media sites.
