UK, Oncology Clinical Data Specialist

UK

Flatiron Health UK is looking for an Oncology Clinical Data Specialist who is passionate about the potential for real-world evidence (RWE) to accelerate the fight against cancer in the UK. Here is what you need to know about the role, our team and why Flatiron Health is the right next step in your career.

UK Office

Flatiron Health is a leading healthcare data and technology company with a mission to learn from the experience of every cancer patient. We do this by helping cancer care providers (NHS Trusts) and researchers gain access to high quality data to accelerate drug discovery, cancer treatments and improve oncology outcomes in the real world.

We established our first international office in 2020 (in London) and within the overall company, Flatiron Health UK is a dynamic and growing team focused on transforming the use of real-world data and improving outcomes of UK cancer patients.

What You'll Do

In this role, you will be responsible for working with our clinical team to develop our UK approach to what we call “abstraction”. Abstraction involves extracting complex unstructured clinical data from electronic medical records assisted by Flatiron’s proprietary software, creating high quality data that can benefit cancer patients. You will also be involved in helping build a team of data abstractors. In addition you will:

  • Work closely with the clinical team to develop data capture forms, instructions and data analyses across multiple oncology therapeutic areas and tumour types
  • Support data quality and control activities related to abstraction, including clarifying guidance, correcting errors and refining instructions
  • Help with feasibility and initial testing of novel data points or new abstraction approaches as the treatment landscape of cancer care evolves
  • Perform patient-level quality assurance on dataset deliverables
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team including technical (e.g., software engineers), business, data analysts, and other clinical professionals
  • Help build a UK-based team and company culture as we grow

Who You Are

You have clinical experience in the oncology care setting. You're excited by the prospect of rolling up your sleeves to tackle meaningful problems each and every day. You’re a kind, passionate and collaborative problem-solver who seeks and gives candid feedback, and values the chance to make an important impact.

  • You are a clinical nurse specialist, research nurse or clinical research professional with significant hands-on experience working in oncology (>5 years)
  • You are familiar with all aspects of how cancer is managed in NHS Trusts and familiar with cancer terminology used in routine oncology care
  • You have experience with health records, and electronic clinical systems
  • You have experience with data entry, electronic data capture forms or other data management systems, and are highly comfortable with technology
  • You have strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate clinical issues effectively with a cross-functional internal team and also comfortable attending meetings with partners (NHS Trusts) and other UK healthcare stakeholders
  • You demonstrate exceptional attention to detail
  • You enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and are comfortable with ambiguity.
  • You are excited by the opportunity to build out and lead a team of abstractors in the UK
  • You are fluent in English

Extra Credit

  • You have experience with how clinical data is represented across the UK (e.g., understanding of ICD codes, cancer registry data)
  • You have health outcomes research/clinical trial experience
