Are you an Ultrasonic Testing (UT) specialist with a passion for R&D and developing new technology and inspection techniques? Framatome is a major global leader in the nuclear energy market with experience designing, building, and maintaining commercial nuclear plants that provide clean energy around the world. The Nondestructive Examinations (NDE) Engineering organization specializes in designing remote tooling and robotics and the associated UT inspection techniques in order to inspect nuclear reactor plant components.


Framatome is seeking an Ultrasonic Testing Specialist for either our Mill Ridge Road office in Lynchburg, Virginia or our office in Charlotte, NC. This role will work alongside a team of engineers and other UT specialists. This position will focus on the development and qualification of new UT techniques to satisfy specific new applications being requested by customers in the industry. Whoever fills this role will actively engage with Framatome’s domestic and international NDE team members and customers and will work alongside and be mentored by one of the nuclear industry’s foremost experts in UT inspections.


Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop new NDE inspection techniques for new geometries or configurations, work with suppliers to customize UT probe designs, prepare NDE procedures, and perform associated qualifications
  • Lead training for first-of-a-kind NDE techniques for NDE personnel prior to their industry qualifications and field deployments
  • Perform troubleshooting of unexpected results or inspection challenges
  • Collaborate with customers and nuclear industry groups on NDE related issues / challenges
  • Help to build project schedules & budgets and provide inputs for new proposals

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for this opportunity:

  • Bachelor's degree in a science or technical field, or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree, plus a minimum of 4 years (more typically 6 plus years) of directly related technical experience

The following may be used to differentiate candidates who apply for this position:

  • UT Level I, II or III certification
  • Working knowledge of ASME Code
  • Experienced in developing project schedules and defining deliverables
  • Proven people / team management experience
  • Work experience in the nuclear industry
  • Strong technical writing abilities with a focus on procedure writing

Our total rewards package

The range of base salary for the position is between $74,000-$96,000, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
