Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

 This Intern, Research - Temporary Part time is designed to be a learning opportunity involving data and statistical analysis, collaboration and manuscript development in a professional scientific environment. We are hosting a part-time graduate internship for a college student interested in developing a career in biostatistics in the field of vaccine and infectious disease research.  This is a paid position for a period no longer than 10 weeks. 

 

This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely. There will be direct oversight (in person or via remote communications) as part of the learning process, with additional interaction to guide the intern with developing and producing the software deliverables.

 

Responsibilities

PRIMARY/ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Learn to access, manage, merge and analyze data from different sources within a protocol.
  • Learn to develop a statistical analysis plan to address a stated scientific question
  • Work with the statistics team to develop data and analysis requirements and specifications.
  • Communicate with the protocol team and other collaborators about the results
  • Conduct an internal presentation
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The applicant must be an graduate student with a Maters in biostatistics or statistics.
  • The applicant should have an interest in applied data analysis and inference, and have received some graduate-level experience in programming, ideally in R.
  • The applicant must be comfortable working with a team of scientists to develop and deliver a project defined by pre-specified requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Software development experience in R
  • Graduate level training in statistics and data analysis
  • Experience working with study data from multiple sources (e.g. CRF and lab)

The hourly pay range for this position is from $20.76 to $29.54 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

This position may be eligible for remote and on campus support. 

 

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees access to a retirement savings plan, an employee assistance program, paid sick leave (1 hour for every 30 hours worked), and prorated paid holidays (up to 11 days per year).
