Summary:
Performs secretarial/clerical duties while acting as a communication center for the nursing unit.

Type of Opportunity: Part Time (.10 to .44)

Six months medical clinical experience OR completion of Unit Secretary course OR completion of self study module required

  • High School Diploma or GED

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:
  • Promotes/facilitates accurate and timely unit communication.

  • Courteously greets and directs customers.

  • Accurately transcribes physicians orders

  • Answers telephones and efficiently processes information, including recording physicians orders.

  • Effectively utilizes computer system to meet patient/unit needs. Variety of tasks are continually organized/prioritized/performed to meet changing needs of patient/unit.

  • Communicates and processes necessary paperwork/information for patient admissions, transfers and discharges.

  • Maintains correct census and bed status report. Assembles patients charts and organizes them daily by filing pertinent reports and adding blank forms as needed.

  • Takes specimens to laboratory and picks up blood and blood products from blood bank.

  • Maintains and accounts for office supplies for the unit.

  • Assists in orienting new personnel to secretarial duties.

  • Assists in maintaining nursing units cleanliness and orderliness.

  • Keeps locator boards current.

  • Responsible for Medical Record being complete and in order at discharge.

  • Performs other functions as required.
