May supervise staff employees, student workers, programs or processes.• Plans and develops procedures for administering a small or medium-sized department or program.• Oversees program expenditures and ensures adherence to budget.• Provides guidance to subordinate staff and evaluates performance.• May prepare or participate in the creation of abstracts, research reports, funding proposals, operations and procedure manuals, and other written material and documentation.• Reviews reports of budgets and activities.• Prepares ad hoc reports as needed.• May administer grants and grant-related related communications, scholarships and other operations.• Develops, implements and maintains appropriate policies and procedures.• May serve as property custodian for the department.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.EEO/AAThe Center for Student Advocacy and Community Program Manager I will play a pivotal role in supporting the campus community’s commitment to advocacy and community. This role is the department’s primary student support staff person and plays a vital role in coordinating the essential needs programs and initiatives for the department. This valuable position will regularly conduct 1:1: resource appointments and referrals and develop original curriculum for our workshop series. This role will coordinate student-centered programs and build relationships with student groups across campus. The Program Manager will play an important role in telling the department story through effective assessment.The successful candidate will be highly organized, student-centered, show attention to detail, and proactively manage all service components efficiently. Flexibility and a desire to serve are essential. Successful candidates will have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of advocacy and community engagement principles and practices. Strong candidates will embrace a student-centered philosophy and the ability to work with a diverse student population.Essential Needs• Oversee and develop advocacy and essential needs programs and services, including CSAC’s resource connection appointment service, online resource list, resource wall and inventory management.• Create original curriculum, facilitate, and assess educational workshops for students and campus constituents in the areas of advocacy and community-building.• Support Cougar Cupboard initiatives, as needed.• This role may include grant writing and managing compliance efforts.Student Leadership, Programming, and Development• Develops original events/programs that promote student engagement and community-building on- campus.• May support or lead programming related to the University’s Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI) designations.• Collaborates with student organizations and campus departments to provide support for student programming.• Represent department and/or division on various campus-wide committees.Assessment• Leads data collection efforts of the department and ensure department effectiveness in achieving its mission through accurate and timely data collection and analysis.• Assist in preparing reports, proposals, manuals, resource materials, and other documentation as required for the department.• Assist in the development of the department’s assessment plan, progress card, and term reports. Serve as a department story-teller.• Recommend modifications to methods or procedures as required.• This role may serve as the assessment chair for the department.• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.Minimum Skills And Experience Requirements• Bachelor’s degree and 1 years’ experience in a related field.• Data entry accuracy and proofing capability; knowledge and experience with Word and Excel spreadsheet and word processing programs.• Demonstrated evidence of strong program management skills.• Strong verbal and written communication skills• Able to safely lift 25-50 pounds• Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple initiatives and deadlines simultaneously is necessary.• Problem-solving skills and ability to identify issues and create action plans• Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.Preferred Skills And Experience Requirements• Master’s Degree preferred with degree in social work, public health, education, social sciences, or similar field.• Experience with case management and knowledge of Houston-area resources• Experience with grant writing and management.• Experience working in an educational or nonprofit setting.• Intermediate proficiency of Microsoft Excel.Other Job Information• Work as a graduate assistant or instructional assistant can count towards the job experience.• Work experience accepted in lieu of education• Education experience accepted in lieu of work experience• Position may be eligible work Alternative Work Arrangements (Hybrid-work) after six months of employment.• On occasion, shifts may include evening, and weekend hours.Priority review of applications will begin on August 28th, 2024QualificationsBachelors and No experienceEducation: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.
