Job Description

Onsite only position

General Summary

Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager, assesses the daily operations of the assigned unit, directs and monitor the daily work activities of the clinical staff to ensure quality patient care. Responds to and takes immediate action regarding quality issues on the unit. Demonstrates values of reverence, integrity, compassion, excellence and stewardship.

The Assistant Nurse Manager must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. He/she must be able to assess and interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide the care needed by the patient group (pediatric, adolescent and/or geriatric patient group).

Qualifications

 

Education and Experience

  1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN required and MSN preferred.
  2. Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland or eligible for licensure through reciprocity.
  3. BLS Certification Required.
  4. Minimum of three-year progressive leadership management experience. Demonstrated success in clinical leadership role.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Demonstrated ability to think critically, develop, plan and organize projects.
  2. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Ability to use computer systems/programs to manage clinical/administrative data.
  4. Previous experience with scheduling of staff for a large unit.
  5. Exceptional clinical expertise in Medical Surgical Nursing.
  6. General understanding of data collection and analysis.
  7. General understanding of financials for a hospital unit.
