Job Description

General Summary


Under general supervision, plans, implements, evaluates and tracks outcomes of educational programs for Maryland’s citizens regarding prevention of violence and traumatic injuries.  Provides information and education to the community about services provided by the Shock Trauma Center for severely injured patients. In addition, proactively develops relationships with state and county agencies, State’s Attorney’s offices, judges, parole and probations, drunk driving monitors, departments of juvenile justice, school systems and other agencies for the purpose of prevention education, representing the Center for Injury Prevention and Policy. Actively conducts research on methods utilized

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.  These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

 

  1. Functions as program coordinator for the Trauma Prevention Program.  Responsible for component services representing the programs, identifying key contacts, establishing relationships, and networking with community and state leaders.
  2. Identifies education needs related to prevention education in the community. Develops program goals, objectives and strategies.
  3. In collaboration with the UMMS Foundation is accountable for obtaining grants, administering funding, monitoring progress, and submitting all reports.
  4. Creates and coordinates community outreach and prevention programs for targeted populations.
  5. Develops measurement and evaluation tools to monitor effectiveness of prevention programs
  6. Serves as community spokesperson for the STC Center for Injury Prevention and Policy, and develops relationships with the local media to obtain coverage of  prevention activities.
  7. Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team, physicians, department managers and administration throughout the R Adams Cowley STC and external contacts to advance the goals of the CIPP.
  8. Participates in legislative efforts that impact trauma/injury prevention.
  9. Prepares for reviews by the American College of Surgeons and other regulatory agencies maintaining PARC standards and regulations.
  10. Plans and implements measurements to determine the effectiveness and impact of programs.
  11. Collaborates closely with MIEMSS in developing, monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of violence and injury prevention programs and public education programs. Maintains all regulatory standards regarding prevention and community outreach by MIEMSS for PARC designation. 
  12. Oversees program data collection, management and outcome evaluation

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor's in Nursing or Master’s degree in allied health field required;
  2. Licensure as a Registered Nurse or allied health professional in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required.
  3. A minimum of two years experience as a health care provider.
  4. Experience with scientific research and publication recommended.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of the laws regarding patient confidentiality and the release of patient information.
  2. A high level of proficiency and demonstrated effectiveness in issue identification, data gathering, problem structuring, analytical skill, response to problem shifts and developing recommendations.
  3. Demonstrated skill in project planning, project management, self-management, managing team members
  4. Demonstrated skill in developing and maintaining customer relations and customer satisfaction including, sensitivity to customer perspectives and needs, commitment to and consistency in customer development, treating providers with courtesy, professionalism and respect, building business partnerships, collaborating with others, valuing and integrating diversity and demonstrating integrity.
  5. Demonstrated skill in effective oral and written communications.
  6. Highly effective organizational and interpersonal skills.
