In that spirit, we are particularly interested in receiving applications from a broad spectrum of qualified people who would assist the University in demonstrating its five priorities for action: Place student success at the center of all we do; drive excellence and innovation in teaching, learning, and research; embody the principle of “mission first, people always"; partner with place; and proudly tell the UM story.Examples of Duties and Responsibilities• Perform standard payroll functions to ensure timely processing and compliance to regulations and policies as required by law and University policies.• Work closely with Campus Partners on training of payroll policies and procedures to ensure payroll is done accurately and timely.• Perform review and audit of Banner Payroll system data entry and reports to support accurate, timely payroll processing and internal and external compliance.• Prepare and distribute payroll reports to various departments and campus partners as needed.• Assist Director in creating and maintaining up-to-date policies and procedures for Payroll, including detailed desk manuals for payroll processing.• Communicate directly with campus regarding payroll changes, upcoming new information and changes to payroll policies and procedures.• Provide support and assistance in research and analysis for assigned projects.• Troubleshoots problems with payroll processing and recommend solutions.• Cross-train with other payroll department employees on all day-to-day functions of the payroll department in order to provide back-up support.• Coordinate with Human Resources Services for completeness and accuracy of employee payroll records.• Collaborate with Human Resource Services and Finance departments to address payroll-related inquires and resolve any discrepancies or issues.• Perform managerial work in directing the activities of payroll employees involved in a variety of payroll tasks.• Provide leadership, education and resource on job task and duties to ensure timely and accurate pay to all employees and student workers.• Hire, mentor and coach payroll technicians.• Encourage growth and development of the payroll staff through available resources such as professional learning and education programs.Minimum Qualifications• Associates degree in a related field, three (3) year of experienced in payroll, and one (1) year of prior supervisory and management experience.• Ability to be detailed oriented with frequent interruptions, multiple concurrent tasks, frequent deadlines, and frequent contact with customers, including employees and campus partners.• Experience with creating spreadsheets and reports in order to utilize information for tracking and analysis.• Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality.• Analytical and problem-solving skills.• Demonstrated ability to work closely with Campus Partners to ensure compliance with complex set of regulations.Preferred Qualifications• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related fieldAdditional InformationPosition is full-time, 1.0 FTE, MUS Contract and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.Screening of applications will begin after the closing date; however, applications will continue to be accepted until an adequate applicant pool has been established.A complete application includes:• Letter of Interest – addressing the stated required skills for the position• Detailed resume listing education and describing work experience• Three (3) professional references - Names and contact informationCriminal Background Investigation is required prior to the offer of employment.
