Description of WorkReporting directly to the Vice President for External Relations, the Associate Vice President for Government Relations (AVP-GR) serves as the University’s chief lobbyist and represents the entire University to the Governor’s office, the Nebraska Legislature, agencies of state government, and to Congress and federal agencies.The AVP-GR is responsible for developing positive and productive relationships with government officials, community leaders, and various community organizations;for determining legislative strategies; and for managing external lobbyist relationships. As a member of the President’s Executive Cabinet, the AVP-GR is responsible for advising the President, the Board of Regents, and University leadership on all government relations matters.LI-DNI Minimum Required Qualifications Qualifications :• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with federal government officials and Nebraska state government officials, including the Governor’s Office, Nebraska Legislature, and other executive branch officials including experience in bill drafting / editing and public testimony• Demonstrated ability to recommend strategies for accomplishing strategic legislative objectives.• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.• Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications :• Ten years of progressive work experience in government affairs, public policy, and / or external relations.• Juris doctorate (J.D.) or Ph.D.• Experience working in or with higher education institutions and / or familiarity with higher education issues and familiarity with the University of Nebraska System.Work Location (City, State) Lincoln, NELast updated : 2024-08-24
