Join the Facilities Services team, a highly responsive and knowledgeable crew providing outstanding service for Facilities Services and to the university community.

Engineering and Technical Support, a branch of the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division, provides comprehensive maintenance services in support of the University’s operations.

Our teams provide a comprehensive array of qualified services, backed by our licensed and certified technicians, to this end, we offer opportunities for continuing education, as well as various stipends for additional trade licenses. Our team of trained trade experts are well-matched for the university’s operational and maintenance needs, whether the facility is a brand new laboratory or our iconic Tower.

Our goal is to self-identify operations and maintenance issues long before our clients realize a repair is needed and take a thoughtful approach to using their resources, structuring processes, and providing the best client service and use of university resources. This goal comes from our sense of ownership and pride in our work.

Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employee without sponsorship.

Security sensitive; Criminal background check conducted on selected applicant. Hiring decision is contingent on applicant clearing check. Purpose

Performs the troubleshooting, testing, maintenance, repair, and service of electrical and lighting systems. Performs all duties associated with Arc Flash study in as directed by Arc Flash Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots, maintains, repairs, and replaces building and equipment electrical, lighting, and electronic systems and components rated up to 600 volts.
  • Performs electrical testing utilizing multimeters and other specialty equipment to safely test, measure, and then correct any observed deficiencies for electrical and lighting systems.
  • During Arc Flash surveys, document existing electrical hazards and code compliance issues and escalate to respective engineers.
  • Survey emergency and exit lighting systems.
  • Assist Arc Flash Engineer in field verification and documentation of existing or newly renovated electrical systems. Installing Arc Flash labels on electrical equipment.
  • Assist Engineers in small electrical and lighting repair and maintenance projects, working with various contractors in existing and new University buildings and systems.
  • Participates in the On-Call Program. Completes paperwork accurately and on a timely basis. Keeps accurate and up to date documentation of all systems.

Required Qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Five years of experience as a journeyman level electrician. Three years experience troubleshooting electrical systems. Journeyman electrical license from jurisdiction recognized by City of Austin. Demonstrate excellent communication skills. Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate's Degree in a related field. Graduation from technical or vocational trade school. Experience in another maintenance trade. Demonstrated stable work history. Licensed as a Master Electrician. Experience at UT Austin or other higher education institution. Successful completion of the Leader Development Program. Demonstrated computer and camera efficiency as well as clear and concise documentation skills. OSHA 30 HR certification.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.

Salary Range

$61,857 + depending on qualifications

  • May be required to work in confined spaces, manholes, tunnels, elevated work, extended shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • May be exposed to loud noise, high dust and allergen levels.
  • May be required to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Often required to twist, grasp, push, pull and bend.
  • Operate job related equipment.
  • May require tuberculosis screening and occasional use of a respirator.
  • Participate in on-call program.

Work Shift

Onsite work. 40 hours a week, five 8-hour days, or possible four 10-hour days with schedule to be determined with supervisor. Optional on-call on weekends and holidays.

Employment Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
