Research Development AssistantJob SummaryWork in a collaborative, positive Research Administrationenvironment. Be part of a small team working to develop and projectmanage multi-project, training, and institutional federal grants ata challenging and rewarding tempo.Desirable candidate will have demonstrated a strong organizationalcapacity and attention to detail, excellent communication skills,and the ability to balance priorities while ensuring follow throughwith a diverse set of responsibilities.This is a hybrid position, the expectation is in office at least 1day a week and remote up to 4 days. This may change based ondepartmental needs.It is expected the Grant/Contract Officer will learn about federalgrant applications while performing a diverse set of tasks, workingclosely with our team and with the grants and contracts pre-awardteam at Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI).Duties and responsibilities will include various communication,administration, organization, formatting, and grant support tasks.This position will also work as needed with HCI's Cancer CenterSupport Grant (CCSG) team, helping to manage data collection,reporting, and grant preparation for that major grant.The ideal candidate is someone who intends to stay with us for atleast three years, during which time they can expect to gainexperience and training that can directly translate into along-term career with HCI and the University of Utah with thepotential to advance as a grants and contracts officer or otherrelated role. This position will report to the Associate Directorof Research Development, Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI). This mayinclude description of your prior experiences related to research,prevention, clinical care, community engagement/outreach, training,administration, or other areas relevant to Huntsman CancerInstitute's mission and this position.Responsibilities• Manage email distribution of grant announcements, memos,letters, presentations, spreadsheets, and other materials as neededby the Research Development Office• Assist and support the team in the formatting and preparationof grant proposal documents, institutional reports, andpresentations• Provide basic support for administrative tasks, working withcolleagues and manager to complete and track assignments• Maintain computer filing systems and excel tracking sheets• Collect and organize information and data as guided• Prioritize tasks in the handling of multiple projects orassignments at once, meet deadlines• Maintain high standards for email communication, written work,scheduling, and organizing tasks• Apply format and style templates to new documents,presentations, and data tables. Copy editing of documents receivedfor format and style per a style guide• Develop and maintain an awareness of Research Developmentsgoals for assigned duties and accomplishmentsTarget Characteristics:Strong attention to detail, highly proficient at written and verbalcommunication, and enjoy learning new administrative tasks. Strongproficiency in Microsoft Office suite, specifically Outlook, Word,and PowerPoint. Proficiency in the use of Adobe Acrobat andMicrosoft Excel. Requires excellent organizational skills andattention to detail, while maintaining sight of the big picture.Displays integrity and is willing to request additional instructionto complete a task or project. Hardworking, flexible, able toprioritize, and works to meet deadlines. Comfortable and effectiveworking in diverse groups of individuals. Has a positive attitudeand is approachable.
