Job Summary:The Office of Data, Academic Planning & Institutional Research (DAPIR) is seeking a Business Analyst to join our Enterprise Data Management team. The position will be instrumental in helping shape the future of UW-Madison's data landscape. Enterprise Data Management is in the process of modernizing several elements of our data platform and is looking for an experienced professional to help us navigate our diverse stakeholders and detailed requirements.This role will perform discovery and lead subject-matter experts through requirements elicitation and documentation; facilitate iterative design/prototyping sessions; document functional specifications, ensure alignment with technical specifications, document test cases; perform functional tests, facilitate user acceptance testing, troubleshoot/document issues, and coordinate fixes/enhancements through to production deployment.The individual in this role is expected to have strong analytical and technical skills combined with excellent communication skills along with the ability to develop and maintain trusted client relationships with key stakeholders.Responsibilities:Conducts business process analyses, needs assessments, and preliminary cost/benefit analyses in an effort to align information technology (IT) solutions with business initiatives. Prepares functional, system, and program specifications. Performs activities that are more complex, has latitude to apply skills to solve most problems without review, and has latitude to devise the approach and method to performing assignments. Regularly performs long-term or non-routine assignments with minimal supervisory intervention, seeking assistance when significant deviations are proposed or when unprecedented problems arise.• 15% Formulates and defines systems scope and objectives through research and fact-finding combined with an understanding of applicable business systems and industry requirements• 20% Devises or modifies complex information systems including analysis of business and user needs, documenting requirements, and revising existing system logic difficulties as necessary• 5% Determines and recommends programs required for optimal problem solution within cost/performance objectives• 15% Participates in requirements planning and feasibility determination• 10% Performs analyses and prepares reports to ensure that programs meet or exceed schedule commitments• 10% Works on tasks including project or functional requirements, functional design, functional configuration, testing, and documentation• 5% Trains, serves as a resource, and provides guidance to other IT business analysts on non-routine problems, processes, and policies• 5% Assists senior staff in developing strategic approaches to problem-solving and anticipating issues• 5% May work with external vendors or service providers• 5% May lead cross-functional project teams and may manage portions of the project life cycle. Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; works well in group problem-solving situations- Ability to effectively work with diverse constituencies- Proven record of process improvement strategies and implementation- Experience writing complex SQL or Python for data and system analysisWork Type:Full Time: 100%This is a hybrid position - some onsite, in-person work may be required with the flexibility to perform some work remotely.
