Scene Designer (The World Builder)

Are you passionate about creating breathtaking virtual worlds and immersive scenes that transport users into new realms? Do you have the artistic vision and technical skill to design interactive environments that captivate and inspire? If you’re ready to shape entire worlds, our client has the perfect role for you. We’re looking for a Scene Designer (aka The World Builder) to create visually stunning and highly detailed scenes that bring virtual experiences to life.

As a Scene Designer at our client, you’ll collaborate with artists, developers, and designers to craft immersive environments for games, AR/VR applications, simulations, and interactive media. Your expertise in scene composition, lighting, and environment design will be essential in delivering worlds that not only look incredible but also draw users deeper into the experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design and Build Immersive 3D Environments:
    • Create and assemble detailed 3D environments that align with project goals, using assets, textures, and lighting to create mood and atmosphere. You’ll bring realism and creativity to every scene you design.
  2. Apply Lighting, Shading, and Atmospheric Effects:
    • Use advanced lighting and shading techniques to enhance depth, realism, and emotional impact. You’ll incorporate fog, particles, reflections, and other effects to elevate the visual experience.
  3. Collaborate on Concept Development and Storyboarding:
    • Work with concept artists and designers to brainstorm and storyboard scene ideas. You’ll help develop the visual language and themes that guide each scene’s design and purpose.
  4. Optimize Scenes for Performance Across Platforms:
    • Ensure scenes run smoothly on multiple devices by optimizing assets, textures, and lighting. You’ll balance visual quality with performance to create immersive scenes without sacrificing functionality.
  5. Implement Environmental Interactivity:
    • Integrate interactive elements like triggers, dynamic lighting, and environmental animations to make scenes feel alive and responsive. You’ll work with developers to ensure smooth integration of interactive features.
  6. Conduct Quality Assurance and Scene Testing:
    • Test scenes for visual fidelity, performance, and compatibility across various devices and platforms. You’ll identify and fix issues to maintain consistency in visual quality and user experience.
  7. Stay Updated on Scene Design Tools and Techniques:
    • Continuously research new tools, techniques, and trends in scene design, 3D modeling, and interactive environments. You’ll incorporate fresh ideas to keep designs modern and visually impactful.

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in 3D Design Software: Strong skills in 3D modeling and scene design tools like Unity, Unreal Engine, Blender, or Maya for creating immersive environments.
  • Knowledge of Lighting and Shading Techniques: Expertise in lighting, shading, and visual effects to set the mood and enhance realism within scenes.
  • Experience with Texturing and Asset Integration: Familiarity with texture mapping, UV unwrapping, and integrating assets to ensure seamless, visually consistent scenes.
  • Understanding of Scene Optimization: Ability to optimize environments for performance across multiple platforms, including mobile, VR, and consoles.
  • Creativity and Storytelling Skills: Artistic vision and creativity to design environments that convey narrative, mood, and engagement.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Game Design, 3D Art, Digital Media, or a related field. Equivalent experience in scene or environment design may be considered.
  • Specialized training or certifications in 3D modeling, lighting design, or visual effects are advantageous.

  • 3+ years of experience in scene design, with a portfolio showcasing high-quality environments and immersive 3D worlds.
  • Experience designing scenes for games, AR/VR applications, simulations, or other interactive media.
  • Familiarity with multi-platform development for optimized performance across VR headsets, consoles, and mobile devices is a plus.
