Job Overview
We are currently looking for a Upholsterer I to join our team in Bruce.
- Upholsters seats and backs for seating products, utilizing Haworth and specially ordered customer fabric, leather, and vinyl. Manually positions fabrics to appropriate parts, forms edges, and attached fabric with staples. Inspects fabric and parts per quality specifications. Major Responsibilities
- Performs duties to ensure department and plant meet daily and weekly work load requirements.
- References material labels and verifies against productions tickets, ensuring pieces are upholstered per order specifications.
- Upholsterers various styles of products, utilizing proper molds, presses, and tools such as heat knives, to meet production requirements. Continuously pulls, pushes, and tugs materials, equivalent to 10- to 24-pounds lift, and staples into place. Requires fine motor skills to use crochet hook to pick up pre-tied loops.
- Inspects all upholstered parts for fabric flaws, weave alignment, seam position, proper alignment of glued subassembly, and correct contours and fabric shade, ensuring Haworth quality specifications are met.
- Follows all safety requirements and communicates any safety concerns.
- Maintains safety and cleanliness of work area by performing various housekeeping duties, including work center preventive maintenance.
- Frequently loads, unloads, and/or positions materials/parts, weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally more (assistance given with heavier objects by work partner[s]), requiring bending, lifting, reaching, pulling, pushing, and/or twisting.
- Completes appropriate paperwork.
- Flexes work schedule as business demands; may work more than eight hours per day and/or forty hours per week, including weekends and/or holidays.
- Performs all duties as assigned to ensure department and plant meet daily and weekly production requirements.
Do you meet these qualifications?
EDUCATION
High school graduate or equivalent (equivalent is defined as equivalent degree OR job-specific work experience OR combination of education and job-specific work experience; three years job-specific work experience equals one year of formal education).
WORK REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE
Two years manufacturing experience, including six months upholstery experience.
ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Frequent exposure to steam, dampness, sharp edges, and fumes from cutting fabric with heat knife.
- Eye protection required; hearing protection may be required.
- Continuously pulls, pushes, and tugs materials, equivalent to 10- to 24-pounds lift. Lifts and moves material/product weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally more (assistance given with heavier objects).
- Walks, bends, twists, turns, and lifts while performing functions of position.
- Constant mental and visual alertness required to avoid potential serious injury to self and others in work group.
- Current and continuing right to work in the United States without sponsorship required.
Ideally, you have also demonstrated the following:
- Ability to utilize precision measuring instruments.
- Excellent vision and color perception essential.
- Ability to work as contributing member within team environment.
- Ability to continuously pull, push, and tug material, equivalent to 10- to 24-pounds lift, into place.
