USAA - Data Entry Operator I

Position Overview:

The Data Entry Operator is responsible for processing information while using a desktop computer. The operator will be compiling, coding and documenting all information provided from specific sources. The Operator must be able to type a minimum of 45 WPM with a 98% accuracy rating in numeric or alpha/numeric mix. The Operator must be able to key from written and image source documents according to the specific client requirements.

This position operates keyboard-controlled data entry devices such as a computer, key-operated magnetic tape, or disc encoder to transcribe data into a format suitable for computer processing. Job task requires skill in operating an alphanumeric keyboard, and an understanding of transcribing procedures and relevant data entry equipment.

This position works under close supervision and follows specific procedures or detailed instructions. The Data Entry Operator I works from various standardized source documents that have been coded and require little or no selecting, coding or interpreting of data. Problems such as erroneous items and codes, or missing information are resolved at the supervisory level. Work is routine and repetitive.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Data Entry Operators must enter information accurately in a timely fashion using specified DATAMARK procedures
  • Key required fields per current business rules and work instructions
  • Duties may include verifying data and preparing materials for printing.
  • All other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Previous data entry alpha/numeric experience

Required Skills:

  • English Language Proficiency to sufficiently read and comprehend written instruction
  • Ability to read documentation and follow various forms of processing documentation
  • Ability to change between various work tasks effectively while maintaining accuracy and timeliness expectations
  • Ability to adapt to changes in procedures and priorities easily
  • Ability to learn quickly while in a training setting
  • Basic computer and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Excellent communication skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.
  • Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
  • The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (as in typical office or administrative work).
