Portland’5 is seeking enthusiastic applicants to join our world-class performing arts patron services team. Join the team at P’5 as an Usher and experience the excitement of working in the best performing arts venues in Portland! Home to arts organizations such as Oregon Ballet Theatre, the Oregon Symphony, White Bird and the Portland Opera, P’5 is among the largest performing arts centers in the US with approximately 1,000 performances and 900,000 attendees annually and generates an average of $60 million in regional spending and provides more than 700 jobs each year. The five theatres at Portland'5 have showcased countless events over the years including Broadway shows, concerts, comedy shows, plays, children's theatre, lectures, dance and much more. We are purposeful in presenting our diverse community with meaningful performing arts performances and spaces that are welcoming and accessible to everyone. Multiple positions in our event driven environment are available. Schedules are flexible and based on the frequency of events and facility needs. Shifts typically average 4 hours and can occur during the day, evening, and on weekends.Ushers are responsible for tasks that are essential to providing a welcoming and enjoyable experience for our guests, such as greeting patrons, providing directions to facility locations, and helping patrons locate their seating assignments. Ushers also perform other important functions, such as assisting patrons during an emergency evacuation and upholding facility and client rules. As an Usher, you will: Greet patrons and direct and assist them to their seats.Note and solve problems with tickets or patrons in wrong seats or helps direct them to a manager when necessary.Keep walkways, aisles and ramps clear of patrons and of potential obstructions such as wheelchairs, walkers, baby carriages, large packages, etc.May prohibit restricted items, as directed.Identify and report spills and potential hazards. Initiate emergency procedures in case of an accident or emergency.Help maintain venue rules including no smoking, food and beverage parameters, no "seat jumping", etc.Stuff and/or distributes flyers, programs, etc. at the gate or door when requested by supervisors.Take or scans tickets.Provide count of guests.May be cross trained. Attributes for success: Perform the physical aspects of the position, including the ability to stand for long periods of time; ability to tolerate inclement weather conditions; ability to climb ramps and stairs; and the ability to lift, hold and carry 10 pounds.Available to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and occasionally early mornings.Read and comprehend all information listed on tickets, vouchers, badges and other event credentials.Communicate clearly, concisely and in a courteous manner both orally and in written form.Demonstrate enthusiasm and positive attitude for venues and for events in order to contribute to clients' and visitors' positive experience.Remain attentive to, and approachable by, members of the public and clients.Work effectively with co-workers, supervisors and the general public.Maintain a calm, caring and professional demeanor.Represent the venue in a professional, competent and courteous manner.Grasp procedural techniques and facility policies and regulations, as well as the facility's physical layout.Use computerized systems online via the Internet for event information and scheduling. Previous experience working with crowd management. COMPENSATION AND REPRESENTATIONBased on the Oregon Pay Equity Act requirements, Metro’s internal equity review process, and the candidates’ qualifications, the appointment will typically be made at $18.68 an hour. This position is eligible for overtime and is represented by IATSE Local B-20 and is classified as an Usher. Classification descriptions are typically written broadly and do not include the specific duties and responsibilities of the positions.
