Job Description

Pay Rate: $31.45 per hour.

BENEFITS

Pay and benefits for employees represented by a union are outlined in their collective bargaining agreement.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Under the general direction of the Supervisor, the incumbent shall perform duties in connection with installation, operation, and maintenance of Company system structures, including, but not limited to:
  • Cutting and laying of pipes, joint fittings (all sizes); tapping mains (all sizes); installing service lines (all sizes); setting up, and opening patent connection machine; setting hydrants and valves (insertion and other); rock excavation; pick and shovel work.
  • Load and unload, operate forklift; transport and store material, as directed.
  • Install, service and maintain mains, service lines, hydrants, valves, etc.
  • Maintain, adjust, and repair small equipment, and tools normally done on the job as required.
  • Must perform valve packing.
  • Use of leak detection equipment to locate leaks. Employees required to use leak detection equipment must be able to successfully pass a company-paid hearing examination. Examination will be given as deemed necessary.
  • Inspection, operation (including flushing), repair, adjustment, lubrication, testing, and maintenance of water pipes, valves, regulators, hydrants, meters, recording equipment, valve boxes, and other related equipment of the Company.
  • Marking out locations for installations of mains, services, hydrants, and marking out locations of existing facilities, and measuring pavement restorations.
  • Take chlorine residual measurements as necessary.
  • Work closely with contractors to prevent damage to company system structures.
  • Makes investigations on customers' premises in connection with high and low pressure, water quality, leaks, etc.
  • Will substitute for the Leader, Transmission & Distribution position first, in order of seniority.
  • When changing a meter with AMR or other technology during working hours, will reconnect and test such equipment. When performing emergency meter-related work on a scheduled emergency standby, and AMR is not installed, and there is a problem requiring a meter to be changed, the Inspector (if directed) will install and test an AMR installation.
  • Performs snow removal as required.
  • Must perform scheduled emergency standby duty.
  • Performs similar, related, or lesser duties as required.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Must drive heavy automotive equipment and operate power equipment.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

  • Must have valid State Driver's License
  • Must have CDL and applicable endorsement as set by state or federal agency or ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • Employees holding a valid D license can perform chlorination and sampling of new and repaired mains, as required by supervision.
