Veterinary Assistant
Position Description:

In the role of Veterinary Assistant you will be working in the Research Office.
Purpose
Under the direction of Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians, assist with patient care and veterinary support services.
Primary Functions
. • Accurately maintain drug, equipment and supply inventories in the clinical laboratory, surgical suites and treatment rooms.
. • Sanitize animal room, cages, equipment, corridors and support areas by using appropriate techniques to promote animal health and welfare and to comply with policies as needed. Care may include specialized, non-conventional areas of the facility. Provide nutrition to animals by supplying feed and water.
Knowledge – Skills – Abilities
Willingness to work hard, take direction and be open to learning new tasks. Data entry skills and computer proficiency including Microsoft Office needed. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong attention to detail and ability to closely follow established procedures. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to adapt to changing priorities. Knowledge of mathematics, documentation, and records management. Data utilization, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills needed.
Preferred Schedule:
Works 40 hrs/wk during core business hours (M - F, 6:00 to 4:00). Scheduling flexibility required as needed for daily overtime, weekends and holidays.
Position Requirements:
Minimum Required Education: High School Diploma
Minimum Required Experience: No experience required
Preferred Education: Veterinary Assistant Certification/Degree preferred
Preferred Experience: Previous animal handling
Field: Science or veterinary related
Certification: Assistant Lab Animal Technician (ALAT) at time of hire is preferred
