The Utah Office for Victims of Crime (UOVC) is seeking a Victim Advocate to join its team. The Victim Advocate assists victims and their families through the UOVC benefit application process. The Advocate also provides victims and their families with information and referrals and supports them in finding answers to their questions.

Principal Duties

  • Participates in committees and public activities as requested by UOVC
  • Generates statistical and quantitative data for grant reporting
  • Provides clients with information concerning rights, options, benefits, services, and expectations
  • Acts as a facilitator in problem solving situations
  • Interprets, clarifies, explains and applies agency policy and procedures, business practices, federal or state laws and regulations, etc.
  • Writes or drafts correspondence, reports, documents and or other written materials
  • Requests police reports and gathers other necessary information in order to help clients qualify for benefits
  • Assist primary and secondary victims with crisis needs and emotional support, as well as assess victims’ safety and other needs
  • Provide appropriate referrals to community, local, or statewide resources such as shelter, treatment, education, legal assistance, and financial aid

Ideal Candidate
  • MUST be fluent in speaking and writing Spanish
  • Experience as a victim advocate in police departments, courts, or other victim service agency
  • Bachelor's degree in a behavioral science preferred but not required
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
