Video Technician

We are seeking a Video Technician who will report to the 555 Penn IT/AV Video Production Manager. The Video Technician assists clients with video technical aspects of concert and events at 555 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC, for the 375-seat theater and multimedia studio center for video recordings. The Video Technician will support a variety of events including music and dance performances from the Peabody Institute to lectures and presentations and University Symposia.

The Video Technician will aid all Johns Hopkins divisions and the various individuals involved in video production to ensure excellent and safe production experience. The successful candidate will be a motivated, proactive, client-oriented team player. The candidate will be organized and provide excellent customer service experience for clients. Attention to detail, customer service focus, and a positive work ethic are a must. Must be able to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends as needed to appropriately staff departmental activities. The candidate must have the ability to walk, stand, and climb (ladders and scaffolding) for extended periods, and the ability to lift 50 pounds. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Provides a professional and safe performance environment for the 555 Penn students, faculty, staff, patrons, and guests.
Supports stage production, sound, lighting, and technical needs of performances at 555 Penn to include live video mixing, sound reinforcement, and setting up A/V equipment.
Collaborates with Video Production team for events that require video and video recording.
Works in close partnership with representatives from various university divisions and outside renters to support event production, audio visual, sound, and curricular needs of the school to achieve an excellent video production and a quality learning opportunity.
Adheres to safety standards, preventative maintenance, training programs, and school-wide policy and procedures.
Supports offsite video production needs and arrangements for ensembles and operas.
Loads PowerPoint and other presentations for customers.
Prepares display settings on lectern PCs.
Prepares monitors for various displays (PowerPoint, Zoom, Presenter View).
Sets up, operates, and strikes Crestron devices.
Provides in-room Zoom assistance for webinars and meetings.
Sets automated camera system for Zoom sessions.
Sets sound (mics, speakers) for Zoom sessions.
Sets room lighting levels appropriate for classes or events.
Prepares room and devices for special events.
Prepares room and devices for movie screenings.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
Four years related experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum of two years college coursework.
Associates Degree preferred.
Additional education may substitute for experience. Additional experience may substitute for education.
Familiarity with video mixing, sound reinforcement, video, and stage production.
Professional demeanor, comfort in high-pressure situations, adaptable, solutions-oriented problem solver.
Experience in video editing and live production, preferred.
Must have working and operational knowledge of all AV equipment commonly used for presentation support, including consumer and professional electronics. Includes, but is not limited to computers (Windows and Mac operating systems); TVs, monitors, DVD, and Blu-ray players, digital video recorders and mixing consoles; slide and data projectors, digital whiteboards; video and web cameras; cabling; SMART technologies and platforms; and Webcasting technologies.

Starting Salary Range: $20.40-$28.00-$35.70 HRLY (Commensurate with experience)

Schedule: M-F 8:00 - 5:00; Hours will vary between 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Weekends and or after-hours support when needed, either on call or in person. On-call weekend rotation support.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
