Job Description:
The Communication Department of Fairfield University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor in Digital Journalism, beginning Fall 2023. A graduate degree in a relevant academic field is required.
We welcome highly qualified candidates prepared to contribute to an independent, interdisciplinary Digital Journalism Program. The
Journalism curriculum
was designed to be interdisciplinary, incorporating a wide array of courses in Journalism, Communication, Film/TV, and Applied Ethics.
Desired areas of specialization include multimedia news writing and sports writing. Secondary interests in literary journalism/feature writing, podcasting, visual media, and student media advising are also preferred.
A demonstrated record of successful teaching at the undergraduate level is required. A successful candidate will teach a 4-4 load of journalism and communication courses at various levels, such as Introductory News Writing, Intermediate News Writing, Sports Writing, and Feature Writing. The candidate may also teach a
communication course
for the Communication Department.
We are particularly interested in candidates who are capable of teaching journalism in the context of race, gender, and other forms of diversity.
