Xavier University is part of the 500-year-old Jesuit Catholic tradition of academic excellence in the liberal arts and is strongly committed to enhancing equity, inclusion, and diversity. We strive for a climate of respect and inclusiveness that welcomes and supports members from diverse backgrounds and life experiences, is committed unreservedly to open and free inquiry, and deliberately seeks out multiple perspectives.
The faculty in the Department of Mathematics invite applications for a Visiting Faculty position for the 2023-24 academic year, in anticipation of one or more tenure-track positions expected to become available the following year. Applicants must either have a Ph.D. in Statistics (or a related field such as Biostatistics, Data Science, or Actuarial Science) by August 2023 or be in the final stages of completing doctoral requirements. Teaching load is three courses per semester, one of which will be a major-level statistics or actuarial science course. Support may be available for research and scholarship.
Our department seeks to build a community that champions the mathematician in everyone. We are home to four undergraduate degree programs and offer minors in mathematics, statistics, and applied mathematics. We also collaborate in a new interdisciplinary honors program in data science. Class sizes are kept small to promote close faculty-student interaction for discussion, exploration and thought. A successful candidate will be expected to utilize innovative and effective approaches in the teaching of statistics to both majors and non-majors alike.
We seek colleagues committed to active scholarship in a liberal arts tradition. Because most of our majors conduct undergraduate research, candidates who have enthusiasm for advancing the culture of inquiry within our student body are encouraged to apply. Xavier has a strong commitment to diversity and seeks a broad spectrum of candidates who are equally committed to fostering and engaging with a diversity of ideas and experiences and to creating an inclusive environment in the classroom and university setting.
Xavier’s urban location in Cincinnati allows faculty to work with community partners to develop engaged learning and internship opportunities. Xavier is a member of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities as well as the Big East.
