VP, Business Development & Client Officer

The VP of Business Development is an integral part of Ipsos’ US Client Organization. Those in this role lead pursuit of a defined new client prospect portfolio and may also devote time to expanding current client relationships.

The VP Business Developer focuses their time and attention on sales, primarily by:

  • Staying current on industry and competitive trends
  • Understanding prospect strategy and business challenges
  • Building short-term and long-term strategic pursuit plans
  • Penetrating, building and nurturing relationships in various parts of the client organization (Insights, Marketing, R&D, Strategy, Procurement, Operations, etc.)
  • Expanding the number of Ipsos services sold to clients
  • Effectively communicating the Ipsos value proposition to prospects; adapting that message to attract new clients to Ipsos
  • Driving internal collaboration to support sales efforts

The VP of Business Development position has high visibility within the Ipsos US organization, reporting to the EVP who oversees New Client Acquisition. The SCO Business Developer will interact with other key Ipsos senior stakeholders, including Service Line Presidents and Executive Vice Presidents, Global Client Directors, and Service Line Client & Project teams.

The VP of Business Development delivers against Ipsos’ Client Organization mission by:

Driving Growth, this employee:

  • Builds effective approaches to 1) pursue new Ipsos client prospects, and 2) expand business within current client accounts
  • Recognizes how clients make decisions and how to better support them
  • Does homework to assure understanding of the sector, context, and strategic growth questions the prospect faces
  • Leverages their network to make industry connections that lead to business
  • Proactively reaches out to prospects in a planful and regimented way
  • Understands how to leverage social media in a way that attracts clients and supports business growth
  • Works conferences to maximize Ipsos ROI, make new connections, and represent Ipsos in a professional and compelling way (e.g., makes new connections, recruits from their network for Ipsos dinners/events, takes notes from relevant sessions to share with clients and colleagues, facilitates Ipsos getting on the podium, etc.)
  • Develops hooks and techniques to open conversations
  • Works closely with the service lines to develop plans and micro-campaigns that engage new clients and client stakeholders
  • Facilitates the refinement of Ipsos services to assure prospect relevance and interest
  • Is able to “sell Ipsos” vs. only selling themselves personally, so that transition to other CO’s down the road runs more smoothly
  • Inspires internal Ipsos teams to be enthused by new high potential opportunities, and introduces the relevant service line people to the prospect to maximize opportunities
  • Aims to achieve balance between developing new relationships for medium/long-term growth and delivering more immediate opportunities
  • Tracks the sales process and reports activity

Required Skills and Abilities:

The successful VP of Business Development will demonstrate either “high proficiency” or “expert” level skills in core areas such as:

  • New Business Sales Experience: has a track record of building business in our industry, understands sales processes and has proven success in new client acquisition
  • Strong Client Network: is connected to range of clients in our industry, with relationships that can be leveraged
  • Working Conferences: Does more than just attend by recruiting client attendees for Ipsos events, connecting, taking notes to share, etc.
  • Social Media Savviness: both to assure that they are seen as senior industry experts and to reflect Ipsos stature and offerings
  • Business and Commercial Acumen: is able to stand up with senior client professionals and have conversations re: how business works, able to empathize with client issues and help them uncover solutions
  • Internal and External Stakeholder Management: beyond being great with clients and prospects, is respectful and artful re: bringing internal teams together in pursuit of new business
  • Knowledge of Ipsos’ Products and Services: understands industry and (eventually) Ipsos-specific approaches and tools so that new client prospects feel immediate confidence that they are speaking with a senior and knowledgeable Ipsos representative
  • Industry & Sector Knowledge: seeks knowledge within the relevant client’s industry to inform strategies
  • Influence and Relationship-building: with both client prospects and internal colleagues in a respectful, positive, open, and productive manner; ability to collaborate in a matrixed environment
  • Impactful communication and presentation skills

In accordance with NY/CO/CA/WA law, the estimated base salary range for this role is $150,000 to $190,000. Your final base salary will be determined based on several non-discriminatory factors which may include but are not limited to location, work experience, skills, knowledge, education and/or certifications.
