SUMMARY:
VP, Medical Affairs is responsible for providing leadership, strategic direction and developing the medical team to achieve Medical Affairs goals to support Corporate Objectives. The VP, Medical Affairs plays a critical role in cultivating current and future ophthalmology, optometry, and vision care KOL relationships in academic and clinical medicine at the local, regional, national and global levels. The VP, Medical Affairs orchestrates and influences the efforts in various cross-functional divisions impacting the Medical Affairs team, such as R&D, Commercial, Market Access and other relevant functions. This role is available as an office-based or remote position with expectations for business travel as needed.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead an eye care Medical Affairs team, provide direction and develop relationships by leveraging credibility, respect, and trust with other internal functions and external organizations and industry peers.
- Provide clinical operations support to investigators conducting ongoing clinical trials, investigator-initiated research programs, and registries consistent with company objectives and regulations.
- Interact with academic institutions to collaborate engage in scientific exchange consistent with company objectives and regulations.
- Identify key deliverables, insights, and metrics that demonstrate the value of the Medical Affairs organization aligned with the strategic direction of the organization and communicate with the executive and senior leaders on a routine basis.
- Track and provide quantitative and qualitative data from Medical Affairs activities that demonstrate customer impact to the broader organization and ensure goal achievement in coordination with the overall organizational goals.
- Develop and lead a strategic scientific publication and communication plan to support the goals of Medical Affairs while driving corporate objectives.
- Orchestrate the generation, collection, analysis and communication of internal and external data from relevant studies to support Market Access and Commercial divisions of eyecare
Required Skills:
- Minimum 10 years in a life sciences with a strong preference for eye care experience, including 5+ years in a customer-facing medical affairs environment
- Exceptional leadership/management skills; prefer 5+ years of experience leading field based medical teams
- Thorough understanding of applicable federal and state regulatory requirements for field‐based scientific personnel; successful track record of compliance
- Experience/expertise in interpretation of scientific data, market research, competitive intelligence tools, drug information systems, and developing medical educational strategies
- Outstanding written and verbal communication/listening and presentation skills: success translating/tailoring complex scientific concepts into simple language for targeted audiences
- Demonstrated problem solving abilities and strong organizational skills
- History of collaboration/teamwork; reputation for successful partnering with internal and external stakeholders, including medical opinion leaders, large group practices, and medical directors
- Good understanding of clinical development and commercial environment
- Knowledge and understanding of disease area, local health care system / market dynamics, regulations, policies, and SOPs
- A proven track record of developing and implementing creative ways of working/projects in line with internal policies and external regulation to deliver optimal value to BIIB, HCPs and ultimately patients
Other Requirements:
Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. The salary range for this position is $280,000-$420,000.
