VP of Insurance

RWE Clean Energy, LLC

The VP of Insurance will oversee all insurance matters for RWE Clean Energy (RWECE) in the Americas, covering all regions, technologies, and policies. In this role, you will be the primary point of contact with internal stakeholders, external insurance brokers, consultants, and the global RWE AG Insurance team in Germany. The desired candidate will balance protecting RWECE against potential risks while acting as a strategic partner to the business to support the significant growth ambitions in the Americas.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all insurance-related topics for RWE Clean Energy in the Americas, including the USA, Canada, Chile, and Mexico.
  • Act as insurance subject matter expert and support the wider RWECE team, including Development, Procurement, Construction, Asset Management, and Operations.
  • Act as a strategic partner to the RWECE business, balancing risk mitigation and adherence to RWE AG group policies with a problem-solving mindset to support RWECE's ambitious growth plans.
  • Manage and negotiate property and casualty policy renewals in close collaboration with the RWE AG insurance team in Germany and RWECE's brokers.
  • Primary interface with all internal and external stakeholders, including insurance brokers and consultants.
  • Responsible for the insurance process supporting Tax Equity financing and M&A activities.
  • Responsible for the evaluation of asset exposures and risks as it relates to insurance
  • Responsible for the insurance claims process
  • Manage insurance-relevant loss control activities and participation in risk engineering site visits.
  • Responsible for the insurance premium budgeting and payment process
  • Responsible for preparing presentations and strategic plans for the senior management team and other stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the RWECE insurance team reporting to you, setting clear goals, objectives, and performance expectations.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 15+ years' experience in a related energy or insurance field required, 15+ years' desired
  • Expert in property and casualty insurance preferred
  • Solid planning and organizing skills include effective prioritization and resource management.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with colleagues and external counterparties across all levels and diverse cultures
  • Proactive, motivated, and enthusiastic, with a positive attitude and a drive for high standards
  • Excellent analytical, judgment, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to develop self and others
  • Experience in negotiating and managing commercial contracts
  • Bachelor's Degree with business administration, engineering, math, or finance focus required
    • Master's Degree preferred; MBA Degree is a plus.
  • Accredited Certified Risk Manager is a plus

Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in California or New York City is $153,500.00 - $230,000.00. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.
