Staff, Software Engineer - Backend

Position Summary...What you'll do...We are the Creative Platform team, building the tools and platforms that enable the ability to create and manage digital ads across all of Walmart intuitively and efficiently . We are looking for a S taff Software Engineer to join our growing team. You will be responsible for leading and driving complex, cross-functional projects from inception . You should be comfortable collaborating with product managers , architects, and other software engineers to translate customer requirements into technical requirements and turning ideas into scalable technical solutions. The ideal candidate has both a deep technical expertise and pragmatism with a bias towards shipping.You should be comfortable taking an end goal and identifying the most critical components to validate the thesis. When you run into bugs / issues, you are able to quickly troubleshoot and triage issues, coming up with solutions that fix both the underlying cause, and prevent future occurrences of similar issues. You are pragmatic in evaluating tradeoffs, and don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.You'll sweep us off our feet if...You have developed highly scalable services to process millions of requests per day and solve complex software systems problems by leveraging state-of-the-art technology.You're a technologist who solves problems in creative waysYou have an eye for detail and can articulate the specifics of quality designYou are curious and unintimidated to work on projects spanning across the full stack - from implementing backend services to building front end code and deploying your services.You have previous experience in AdTech and understand how to build products that fitYou have strong communication and interpersonal skills.You focus on end-user impact when you build software.What you will have:7 + years' experience of software development w/ a bias towards backe nd technologiesExtensive e xperience designing and implementing REST APIs using Java and S pring B ootE xperience designing relational database schemas as well as implementing and optimizing SQL queriesExperience utilizing Java Hibernate and optimizing data access with Hibernate.Experience with Docker and utilizing Cloud providers to deploy application and services.Experience tech leading projects and mentoring more junior engineersExperience writing technical design documents to communicate implementation plansPlus if you have:Previous experience in the advertising domainAdvanced knowledge of performance, scalability, and system architecture with an eye toward avoiding and reducing technical debt.Strong inclination towards exploring and learning new technologies .At Walmart, we offer competitive pay as well as performance-based bonus awards and other great benefits for a happier mind, body, and wallet.
