Position Summary...What you'll do...Director, Public and Government Affairs - Tech PolicyThe Tech Policy Director is a highly skilled, experienced professional responsible for advising Walmart, Inc., and its leadership on public policy issues at all levels of government.Specifically, this role is best suited for individuals with deep expertise in technology policy - including but not limited to e-commerce and online marketplace issues; data privacy and security; biometrics; and immersive technology. Familiarity with competition policy and intellectual property protections is a plus. Strong candidates will also have working knowledge of the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in various business applications, and the public policy implications of these applications.Walmart's Global Public Policy (GPP) team is responsible for identifying risks and opportunities in the public policy space with the goals of maintaining and expanding the company's license to operate; creating opportunity for our 2.2 million associates; serving millions of customers across the globe; and building shared value in the communities we serve.Walmart, Inc., is a people-led, tech-powered omnichannel retailer dedicated to helping people save money and live better. We have been intentional, through our digital trust and transparency commitments , to ensure that customers and associates understand our use of data and overall technology goals.As Tech Policy Director, you will serve at the forefront of these transformative efforts.ResponsibilitiesThe Tech Policy Director provides leadership in defined public policy areas that are of strategic interest to Walmart and its stakeholders. Using subject matter expertise and serving as a counselor to the business, the role engages in complex public policy analysis and works with a range of internal and external stakeholders to shape strategic priorities.The Tech Policy Director must think critically and act decisively. The role also requires the flexibility to shift focus on a multitude of issues that could - from one day to the next - affect local communities, or have national or global scope. Effective communication to colleagues, business partners, policymakers, and the general public, working closely with Walmart's government affairs and communications teams, is paramount.Come to this role with a strong background in public policy and a desire to grow within a dynamic team. Be willing to communicate and execute with urgency, and demonstrate sound judgement while doing so.You'll make an immediate impact by:• Identifying Walmart's public policy priorities, both in your respective subject matter expertise area(s) and through collaboration in peer-owned areas as well.• Devising appropriate strategic plans to address Walmart's public policy priorities, and work with colleagues to execute through effective tactics• Informing, advising, and recommending appropriate courses of action to internal business partners related to Walmart's public policy priorities• Monitoring and analyzing legislation, high-level administrative or regulatory activity, or other government-led initiatives at all levels that could be of potential impact to Walmart, its associates or customers• Building and managing relationships with external trade and industry associations, NGOs, public policy experts, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders• Leveraging stakeholder relationships in the public policy space to advance Walmart's policy priorities and promote a better understanding of Walmart's important role in society• Engaging in public policy research with internal and external partners• Building networks across internal business functions to develop accurate and meaningful public policy positions, and oversee appropriate responses to external factorsYou're an ideal candidate if...• You have 8+ years' applied public policy experience and demonstrated success in government affairs, and/or related advocacy fields; corporate experience in this capacity is a plus• You hold a Bachelor's degree in government/political science, economics, international affairs, business, or relevant subject matter fields (see above)• You have a deep understanding of policymaking processes at the state/local, federal, and/or global level - and how to leverage private sector influence in those processes• You want to tackle complex public policy problems, and can anticipate them and react quickly when they occur• You can identify appropriate courses of action in response to complex public policy problems, and then work with teams to implement effective solutions• You are comfortable directly counseling senior leaders on policy issues and strategy• You have experience in working in matrixed environments with an ability to navigate complex organizations and spark collaboration across teams and departments• You have experience cultivating and managing stakeholder relationships with trust and integrityWork EnvironmentThe GPP team is based at the Walmart Home Office in Bentonville, AR. We are looking forward to the opening of our new, state-of-the-art campus later this year. Work is primarily office-based, but we offer some flexibility to maintain work/life balance.
