Position Highlights

The AZ Student Unions is looking for a Warehouse Manager I to join our team. This position manages the daily operations of the warehouse, including freight, shipping and receiving, returns and transfers. This position is responsible for maintaining high levels of accuracy in day-to-day operations. The warehouse manager must track multiple facets of the warehouse at any given time and maintain inventory accuracy, coordinate orders, and ultimately oversee the fulfillment of thousands of product orders for Student Union business units. The warehouse manager will lead, coach, and develop the warehouse team. May also manage the property control system within the unit and purchase equipment, materials, furniture or other supplies. This position will also oversee purchasing and inventory of Alcohol Beverage products, as well as recording information in our Food Pro data system.

Duties & Responsibilities

Operations:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations and tasks of materials handlers, drivers, and other warehouse staff.
  • Manage inventory levels to ensure student union business units have sufficient products to serve customers.
  • Makes decisions regarding hiring, evaluation, promotion, and termination of employees.
  • Establishes goals and objectives for assigned are to meet overall department goals; develops and implements new and revised methods or procedures to improve efficiency and help achieve goals.
  • Plans and schedules tasks over the short and long range to determine priorities and assign work.
  • Controls inventory levels and coordinates and organizes annual inventory counts for assigned area/division.
  • Advises and instructs subordinates in all aspects of work; ensures adherence to university and safety policies and procedures.
  • Resolves customer complaints and questions and inventory problems presented by subordinate staff.
  • Provides input and monitors budget for assigned area/division.
  • Manages property control system, assigns numbers, tags, and ensures appropriate documentation of location, descriptions, and other data.
  • Determines disposition of used or damaged property and handles it accordingly.
  • Analyzes operational issues to determine the most effective use of all resources.
  • Compiles and prepares reports for management regarding area operation and financial matters; incorporates information submitted by subordinate supervisors.
  • Ensures accurate, complete records are kept regarding consumption, cost, selling price, stock levels and other data.

Interdepartmental and Outside Communications:

  • Assesses needs and requirements of both the university and vendors, implements programs and services to meet them.
  • Maintains inventory levels, purchases equipment, materials, furniture and supplies in accordance with budget and priorities; prepares bid specifications and works with appropriate staff and vendors to obtain required items/prices and resolves questions or conflicts.
  • Maintains interactive relationships with Cash Ops.
  • Achieves effectual relationships with vendors.
  • Confers with vendors to ascertain the most beneficial terms and prices for blanket and special orders.

Customer Service:

  • Greets and serves customers in a friendly courteous manner.
  • Provides suggestions and input to Supervisor.
  • Actively solves problems wherever possible.
  • Works harmoniously with co-workers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Possesses extensive knowledge in discipline as well as management and leadership expertise.
  • Mastery knowledge of industry best practices and job functions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-volume environment

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to occasionally transport/move a minimum of 50 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience required.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
