Warehouse Worker

Culinary Services Division (CSD), a division of Auxiliary Services, provides meals and specialty beverages for over 18,000 customers daily and is an integral part of campus life and the overall college experience. CSD proudly provides Montana State University students with not only a repertoire of various cuisines, cooking styles, and flavors, but a comfortable atmosphere to meet friends, study, and simply relax. The division is comprised of 2 residential dining halls, a commissary kitchen, 3 coffee shops and the Union Market retail operation, Brick Breeden Fieldhouse and Bobcat Stadium Concessions, Fork in the Road food truck, MSU Catering, Indulge In-House Bakery, and the Farm to Campus Program.

Duties and Responsibilities
Under supervision from the Dining Hall Warehouse Assistant Manager, the Warehouse Worker (Porter) is responsible for :
Accurately receiving, checking in, recording receiving temps, and stocking daily deliveries of food and food service related items in a timely manner.
Rotating food products according to expiration dates and sanitation rules.
Maintaining a clean receiving area and disposing of all pallets and packaging appropriately.
Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of all storage areas, floors, walls, and storage racks.
Assisting in all food service areas as needed both front of house and back of house.
Making delivery runs across campus as needed.
And actively contributes to the team by performing other duties as needed in support of the department’s mission.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Experience providing excellent customer service to a variety of individuals or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Basic math skills.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Warehouse experience handling food products and food service related items.
Experience operating warehouse related equipment.
Experience using computers and various software packages with an emphasis on Microsoft Office programs.

The Successful Candidate Will
Work effectively and efficiently in close cooperation with Culinary Services staff in a team-oriented environment.
Maintain an orderly and clean warehouse.
Understand and utilize the inventory reconciliation process.
Be highly motivated and work with minimal supervision.
Exhibit strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Work well individually or with a team.
Consistently exercise initiative and good judgment.
Exhibit accurate and organized record keeping skills.
Prioritize and organize workload in order to complete tasks in a timely manner.
Quickly adapt to changing priorities.
Follow sanitation guidelines and policies.
Represent the division and the University to others in a professional and courteous manner.

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information

Must possess currently or be eligible to obtain a valid State of Montana Driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record (less than 12 points). Do NOT send a copy of the driver’s license. If the successful candidate possesses a valid out of state driver’s license, the candidate must obtain a valid Montana driver’s license within 60 days.
Shift is normally Tuesday – Saturday, 9 am – 5:30 pm, may change dependent on departmental need.
May occasionally work some evenings, weekends, long hours, and occasional holidays as the school and event schedule demands.
May occasionally work outside and in inclement weather assisting with special events.
Possess a 4-hour sanitation certification or have the ability to become certified.

Physical Demands
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodations. The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Normal warehouse, dock, kitchen, cooler, and freezer environments.
Constant gripping of handles while operating hand trucks and hydraulic jacks.
Frequently moving and transporting containers/products weighing up to 50 lbs; Heavy work with repeatedly moving and lifting containers weighing up to 90 lbs; containers/products of all different sizes and shapes.
Being in a stationary position and/or moving about for long periods of time.
Occasionally moving product up and down stairs.
Moving about while stocking and positioning products.
Gripping handles on small kitchen utensils and other equipment.
Performing repetitive motions related to job duties.
Regular exposure to cleaning chemicals.
