Job Description
The Washington Post is seeking a Senior Staff Product Manager to join the Content Experience product team and play a critical role in developing the next generation of personalized discovery products – including our homepage and our flagship mobile app – at The Washington Post. The position will be based in either our Washington, DC or New York offices and will require travel as needed between the two locations. This role reports to the Director of Product, Content & Creator Experiences.
Motivations
As the Senior Staff Product Manager for Personalization and Discovery, you will lead the strategy and execution of personalized content experiences. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Data and AI, newsroom, and product design, to build and scale our discovery products (including our homepage and app) that elevate how users discover relevant content. Your work will directly impact our ability to build habits with our readers.
Responsibilities
Develop and own the product strategy and roadmap for personalization and content discovery initiatives.
Lead cross-functional teams to design, build, and optimize recommendation algorithms and discovery features.
Collaborate with data scientists to leverage user data and machine learning to personalize content at scale.
Partner with editorial and marketing teams to ensure content personalization aligns with our brand values and business objectives.
Conduct user research and data analysis to gain insights into audience preferences and behaviors.
Define success metrics, track performance, and optimize product features to drive engagement and retention.
Present product vision, strategy, and updates to senior leadership and stakeholders.
Qualifications
8+ years of experience in product management, with a focus on personalization, content products, or recommendation systems.
Proven track record of leading large-scale consumer-facing products from concept to launch.
Strong analytical skills and experience working with data-driven product development.
Excellent communication and leadership skills, with experience collaborating across technical and non-technical teams.
Familiarity with machine learning models and data pipelines.
Demonstrated ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the media or content industry.
Master’s degree in Business, Computer Science, or a related field.
The Washington Post’s policy for employees is five days per week in the office, with exceptions for newsgathering and general business travel.

The salary range for this position is:
144,600.00 - 241,100.00 USD AnnualThe actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
